[ T’Laara - Deck 26] T’Laara nodded, and proceeded back out into the corridor. Kaya and S’Riia had not yet returned, so she moved on to the next door. Right as it slid open, she felt it again. A strange prickling at the back of her mind. This time, it was slightly stronger, and accompanied by the inexplicable sense of something else. She stopped and glanced around, but like before, this lab was still fairly deserted. No one was watching them. Before she could get a better sense of the sensation, it was gone again. It was unusual for a headache to fade in and out so quickly. Perhaps she should visit sickbay when this situation was resolved. Realizing that she had stopped in the door, blocking Velal's way, T’Laara walked forward again with a start. “My apologies. I just felt… a bit strange.” She had no other words to describe it. Jovireh Velal [PO2 Jovireh Velal - Front Ear - Deck 26 Science Labs]The next time she felt the presence, there was a familiarity about it, but not one she would identify. T'Laara stopped suddenly in front of her, and Jovireh was just distracted enough that she almost walked into the other woman's back. When the scientist continued into the lab with an apology, the Petty Officer followed her in, glancing over at her before beginning to look around the lab. "You felt it too?" Judging by the Vulcan's reaction, wayward telepathic presences weren't a common occurrence here, so that ruled out an undisciplined scientist... "I was hoping it was someone who worked on the deck," she added as a way to voice her mild concern over the matter. There weren't as many plants in this one, but she moved to their containers anyway, once more not recognizing any of them from the jungle.

Having spent most of her life around humans, with no need to use it, it was not something T’Laara had ever taken the time to learn. [ Mott Moz | Deck 29 Security Node ]Already present at the docking bay security node, swinging his legs from a chair, was a twelve-year-old Bolian boy slurping some kind of thick, fruity beverage loudly. He'd been caught somewhere no little kid had any business being and dropped at the nearest security node while a parent was located. (No one had time to walk him back down to the civilian decks.) He'd already asked if he was being 'detained' (no) and if he was 'free to go' (also no) several times, but otherwise didn't seem bothered at all. When Chief Ozu arrived with Ensign Enola, Mott Moz straightened up in his chair. He'd been commanded not to get up, so he moved to the very very edge of the chair. He'd been living on the station for a few months now and was getting well acquainted with some of the main players (and vice-versa), including the head of Engineering. (Although he was not allowed in Engineering.) "Chief, I'm under arrest!" he declared proudly. "I'm a security risk." Completely fabricated. The officer staffing the node shook his head to Ozu and Enola. No one had said that. Ozu Saya , Enola [Ensign Enola, Deck 14 => Deck 29] Enola kept pace with Ozu and tried to remember the exact way so as not to get lost if she went here alone. "How big is this station?" she asked in the turbolift before it stopped and apparently the destination was reached. The first thing she noticed, of course, was the blue Bolian. What is that supposed to be, little man? Enola asked herself, but was happy to leave the verbal answer to Chief Ozu. She didn't know the blue, but somehow quite cute little boy in front of her, and with her extremely limited sense of humor, could barely tell if this was just a joke.
She bent down to about the boy's eye level. __________________________________________________________________________ [ MCPO Ozu Saya - Security Node] ' It isn't particularly large, especially compared to one of the Citadel-class stations, but the layout can make it seem bigger and more confusing,' Saya answered just before the turbolift opened to deposit them in the security node. Saya caught sight of Mott just before he spoke and was about to ask what he was doing there when he made his announcement. At his words, Saya's eyebrow finally came loose of its mooring and lifted practically to her hairline. She had to compress her lips tightly to keep from laughing outright at his pronouncement (Enola might feel a little of her humor telepathically). She waited a moment until she could speak without laughing, then made formal introductions. ' Ensign Enola, allow me to introduce Mott Moz, one of our station residents. He has a propensity for finding himself in places he shouldn't be.
'I am giving the ensign a tour of the station, and I must take her up to S4.' Saya said this as much for the security officers on duty as for Mott. ' If your mother hasn't come to retrieve you by the time we return, you may accompany us until we reach the promenade.' The young boy certainly wouldn't help her maintain her Vulcan facade, but Saya was finding that after her initial stiffness, she didn't really need to keep it up. By this point, she really didn't care anymore what other Vulcans thought of her; it was just reflex. ---------- Tag Enola and Avi Moz [Ensign Enola, Security Node]
Enola did not raise her eyebrows, but still looked at the little Bolian with a serious expression. Maybe she should reconsider her sense of humor. Briefly she looked at the chief who was apparently a little more amused. "Nice to meet you. As Chief Ozu has already said, I'm Enola. New intelligence officer," she introduced herself in a less formal way and nodded slightly to Mott. Finally she got up again. "Well then" ________________________________________________________

[NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Deck 26 Corridor, Front Ear Station ] As S'Riia heard Kaya's words, she took it that the Trill wasn't as fragile as people may believe. Though, her words seem to heavy as she mentioned that there wasn't any one thing that people had said or even done. For once, S'Riia started to believe she could see the bigger picture of what had happened. She couldn't help but think of parallels of her own. It was true, Kaya may have run off, but she had at least come back. It wasn't something that S'Riia could say she'd done as well. Hearing that she could say what she felt, S'Riia did speak up. "Fine. Then, what I want to say is that I hear you. Or at least I would like to," the half-Caitian said. "Whenever you're excited, disappointed, annoyed or pissed... I want to know. Sure, I care about Chief Som... but I care about Kaya more." S'Riia sighed, leaving the invitation to be a sounding board whenever her friend needed. When Kaya began to move forward in the Jeffries tube, S'Riia was reminded that there was still a task to complete. She followed along, listening as Kaya explained about her decision to go to Q'onos... or rather the lack of one. Still, she was right. Being among Klingons was nothing like being among humans. Klingons definitely spoke their mind, your feelings be damned. "Only with Klingons is loud an understatement," S'Riia said. Of course, their brutal honesty was never something in question either. S'Riia was just about to say more when she heard the tricorder ping. Her ears twitched slightly at the alert as she looked towards Kaya's direction. "Did you find something?" she asked.

[ CPO Kaya Som | Jeffires Tubes ]S'Riia was open with how she felt for Kaya, being firm in her assurance that Kaya could talk to her, no matter the problem. That was easier said than done. Kaya wasn't used to such frank validation. She resisted deflecting it with some self-deprecating joke, following the advice of the counsellor. Kaya laughed and agreed with S'Riia's evaluation of Klingon manners. But her tricorder was demanding her attention. Kaya stopped in the tight corridor then crawled forward a few more feet. "Yeah, something is janky up here." She handed her tricorder back to S'Riia and tightened up her gloves. Then she took out a power drill and undid the six bolts that fastened the heavy conduit casing. It came loose and Kaya pulled it away. She shined her light into the conduit channel and swore. "Vek'tema... " The conduit was crushed. The power conduit consisted of several thick cables, each wrapped in strong protective housing. They weren't severed, they weren't burned. It looked like they'd been clamped nearly flat. She looked at S'Riia and made a face before tapping her comm badge. :comm: "Som to Engineering, I think we've found the problem." :comm: Isaiah Quinn cc Jovireh Velal Ozu Saya Shavan Th'zhaar

[ T'Laara - Deck 26] Apparently T'Laara was not alone in being unable to determine the source of the strange sensation. “I am not accustomed to telepathic contact, but believe I understand.” In that case, the presence they were feeling was one more thing to add to the mystery. Which they were still no closer to resolving. “Yes, I am ready. The missing sample is not here.” At her companion’s prompting, T’Laara led the way back out to the main corridor and into the next, and last, lab in this section. That was when she felt it again, growing stronger. This time it did not immediately fade. Jovireh Velal

Mott began to slowly slide off the chair. "No," came the response. Mott drew his legs back up and finished off the dregs of his drink. [ MCPO Ozu Saya - Security Node] Oh, Prophets, if Evekh grew up to be half so persuasive, she'd find herself never being able to tell her son no. Saya closed her eyes for a moment. ' I'm sorry, Mr. Mott, but you know I can't allow you to accompany us into a secure area. It won't take long to acquaint Ensign Enola with her post, then you can return to the promenade with us.' She gestured Enola across the chamber where another turbolift that served just the security node stood. ---------- Tag Avi Moz and Enola [Ensign Enola, Deck 29]
Enola nodded and followed Chief Ozu to the turbolift before standing inside with her back to the wall. "Small department," Enola muttered, frowning. "Who's on board that I should know , at least by name?" she asked, aware that sooner or later she should get to know the name of every officer here. Still, she could get to know some names now, and try to fill the turbolift ride with some conversation, even if less successful.
___________________________________________________- [ MCPO Ozu Saya - Security Node - S4] ' Behave yourself,' Saya called to Mott in one last mothering moment just before they entered the turbolift. ' That boy is precocious,' she said once the turbolift doors had closed. ' We met him while visiting another planet. He tried to pickpocket a friend. But he grows on one.' Like a fungus, she added silently to herself in amusement. Saya lifted one shoulder in a shrug. As they exited the turbolift on S4 and entered the tiny domain of Intelligence, Saya gestured around the small work space. ' The department is quite limited, though the captain did have things redecorated recently. And it's cramped.
There's Commander Matthew Harmon, of course, the department head, and his aide Ensign Chloe Hudson. There are a couple of other people, but I'm not familiar with them. Our departments don't crossover very often.' ---------- Tag Enola

[NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Deck 26 Corridor, Front Ear Station ] S'Riia watched as Kaya undid the cover and pulled it aside. Staring up at what was before her... well, suffice it to say that you didn't need to be an Engineer to see what the problem was. "Who or what could have possibly done that?" S'Riia asked. She removed her own tricorder and began to scan for any signs of life signs in the area. Perhaps the saboteur was still in the area. At that moment, she wasn't detecting anyone. "I assume no one was assigned to do any maintenance in this area today?" S'Riia asked, though she was certain she knew the answer to that question. "This doesn't make any sense. If someone was looking to do serious damage to the station... or simply get our attention, there are other systems... more attractive targets than this."

[PO2 Jovireh Velal - Front Ear - Deck 26 Science Labs]Jovireh shook her head as she browsed past the plant samples. "No, as soon as I feel it, it's gone. I'm not as practiced as some; it takes me awhile to figure out new presences." On the jungle planet it had taken over half an hour for her to figure out what she'd been feeling ever since they crashed was a presence and not some sort of natural dampening field. Granted, the hive mind of insects was quite a bit different than the telepathic contact she was used to, so that was understandable. And as she'd said, this one was passing too quickly for her to even locate, let alone identify. As she reached the end of the line of plant samples, she shook her head again, turning back towards T'Laara. "Nothing here looks familiar either. Ready to move on?" [ T'Laara - Deck 26] Apparently T'Laara was not alone in being unable to determine the source of the strange sensation. Jovireh Velal [Sample M-240385J-3 - Front Ear - Deck 20 Conduit]
Space suddenly opened up before it, and with a grateful shudder it squeezed from the tight enclosure it had been traversing. Stretching its stalk and shaking its leaves, it continued on, following the warm vibrations beneath the cold surface once more. As before, it reached a point where the heat suddenly increased, and pressed itself against the source. But this time, there was something in the way. Tendrils scraped across the smooth, unnatural surface until they found tiny cracks. The heat was more tangible through those cracks. The source must lay beyond. It dug its tendrils into the cracks, shuddering in pain as slivers were ripped away by the edges. But within moments they caressed the source of the heat and the previously felt pleasant sensation rippled through it. Yes... that made it better. Its roots wrapped firmly around the source, leaves stretching to their extent before hanging loosely from its stalk, enjoying the warmth and sensation to the fullest. All across Deck 20, lights began to flicker, and the sealed doors to the secured science lab slid open. [PO2 Jovireh Velal - Front Ear - Deck 26 Science Labs]It had always been strange to Jov that so many telepathic species didn't use their abilities as freely as Betazoids, especially when it was possible to communicate telepathically without prying into each others' thoughts. Granted, that was more difficult, as it required sufficient mental blocks to remain in place at all times, but for a species as practiced in meditations and mental control as the Vulcans, she assumed it would be much easier than it would be for Betazoids, who were far more open and free-flowing as a culture. Regardless, that was far from the point at the moment. They returned to the corridor and stepped into the next lab, and this time she felt the presence it lingered long enough for her to at least begin to trace it. "It's... above us..." she stated in confusion, brow furrowing as she lifted her gaze to the ceiling. That was weird, as she normally couldn't feel anyone that wasn't on the same deck as her. "I can't tell how far, though." The longer she could feel the presence in her mind, the more uneasy she became about it. It didn't feel like there were thoughts accompanying it, like a stranger standing in the corner of a room not saying a word. Swallowing back her nerves, she lowered her gaze to the samples around them, and resumed their search. But she couldn't prevent the chill that swept across her skin that had nothing to do with the temperature.

There's Commander Matthew Harmon, of course, the department head, and his aide Ensign Chloe Hudson. There are a couple of other people, but I'm not familiar with them. Our departments don't crossover very often.' [Ensign Chloe Hudson - Intelligence Office]With Commander Harmon missing in action, and Bav, thanks to Kaya Som, known to be a mole for the Nyberite Alliance, Chloe was the only one actually working in Front Ear's Intelligence department at the moment. She'd heard from Mabel that Starfleet was apparently sending a replacement. Even if Matthew somehow got himself free he was going to be a in a load of trouble most likely. At least with him gone she got to occupy his office, which however crappy was still better than the sorry excuse of a bullpen out front. As she was diligently analysing the latest intelligence reports from Nyberr, the grumpy old Andorian Petty Officer Bav came in and let her know the Master Chief was there with the new recruit. An Ensign like herself. It was strange to be the one in charge. Stranger still not to have Matthew around. She'd gotten so used to, and reliant on his presence. She felt lost and overwhelmed, not to mention heartbroken at the thought he may have been killed, or at least never see freedom again. If only she could have been there to talk him out of whatever stupid plan he'd thought up.
She got up and made her way to the cramped front room and stood behind what counted as the reception desk. The Intelligence Office was essentially a glorified supply closet. The front door had a small reception area and then to the side of it was a small bullpen area with a cramped desk in the corner and another slightly larger one in the middle of the room that counted as a conference table. "Ensign Enola, I presume?" Chloe asked in a flat tone, her usually bubbly personality seemingly absent. "I'm Ensign Hudson. Acting Chief of Intelligence I guess."
