[ Mott Moz | Security Node ]After approximately ten hours of waiting, Ensign Enola and Chief Saya reappeared. Mr. Moz had been given a PADD to make the wait more bearable to both Mr. Moz and the security officer. At his name, Mott launched from the chair like a coiled spring released, returned the PADD to the desk, and fell in line with the two Starfleet officers. "Prophets guide you," he declared, having learned the phrase from the promenade hasperat vendor Apazi Fellin. Then he added slyly, "live long and pizza." Mott had learned of human pizza from The Traitor Thomas Jett and it ranked very high on the Bolian's young but distinguished palette. Enola , Ozu Saya [Ensign Enola, Security Node]
Well, someone was learning greetings from many cultures, Enola tought and raised an eyebrow . "I'm delighted, but to canonize us for getting you out of here, I think is absolutely illogical," she said and pushed the Bolian between her and Ozu, who certainly knew him better than Enola did.

Enola , Ozu Saya [ T’Laara - Turbolift, Deck 26 -> 23] With Velal following, T’Laara entered the turbolift. “Deck 23,” she directed, not wanting to go too far at once and overshoot it. They could now either eliminate the decks in between and keep going, or would know that the source of the telepathic presence was somewhere in the area they had passed. “If you can still sense its direction, we can start by narrowing down the area it must be in.” She paused, purposefully trying to feel the presence, when the turbolift halted. “It feels stronger to me, perhaps closer, but there’s still nothing that I am able to learn about it.” The sensation was completely alien to her. Jovireh Velal [ SCPO Melihn Ryah - Main Security Office - Security Node] Ryah pursed her lips to one side, then replied, ' Acknowledged. I'll send security your way anyway. The chief sat back and briefly considered going herself, just to get out of the office, but staring at the stack of PADDs she still had to go through, she decided that she couldn't. ' Computer, are there any security officers near the Deck 20 secure science lab?' ' Petty Officer 2nd Class Jovireh Velal is en route to Deck 23' Ryah tapped her combadge again and said, ' Melihn to Velal. I need you to check the secure science lab on Deck 20. They've had some kind of breach. It may be nothing, but we don't want to take chances.' ---------- Tag Jovireh Velal [PO2 Jovireh Velal - Front Ear - Turbolift]She focused on the sensation as T'Laara spoke. It did feel like they were getting closer to it, but there was also... "It's getting stronger." That in itself was worrying and strange. "I've never known a telepath of any species that can increase their power so quickly." Was it a species Starfleet hadn't accounted for? How did someone of unknown origins even get on the station though? When another call came through, directing her to a security breach on Deck 20, she cast a nervous glance at the civilian beside her. =A="Acknowledged, Chief. There've been other signs of a possible intruder in the labs on Deck 26. PO S'Riia is with Chief Som investigating as well. But if you do... Just stay behind me." This was certainly not how she had been expecting this day to go...

[NPC - PO1 S'Riia - The Tubes, Front Ear Station ] What S'Riia heard from Kaya wasn't very encouraging. First of all, she had no idea what had caused this, but it also seemed that the damage was incredibly specific and localized. That seemed to suggest intent, meaning someone wanted this to happen. Yet, there didn't seem to be any indication that anyone had been in the area. Kaya's call to Engineering confirmed as much as no one had been in the area to conduct maintenance for weeks. S'Riia then heard her own badge chirp as Velal reported in. She stated that both she and T'Laara had detected a telepathic presence, and were chasing it down. "An intruder? Capable of eluding our scans?" she mused aloud and looked towards Kaya. =A= "Acknowledged. Let me know if you require additional support." =A="Are we missing something?" S'Riia asked aloud. "Can you think of any reason someone would target this conduit at this particular location?" If she could figure out why this conduit had been targeted perhaps they'd have a clue as to whom was behind this. "And... is there another target that would be equally appealing as this one?" [ CPO Kaya Som | Jeffires Tubes, Dec 26 ]Chief Ozu was on her way, so Kaya sat down with her back on the opposite wall to wait. It wasn't too much longer that the security channel lit up for S'Riia with news of telepathic intruders and more power outages. Kaya found herself looking down to both ends of their tube, ensuring they were alone. They were. Kaya sighed and raked her fingers through her hair. The feeling was familiar and unwelcome. S'Riia was talking, but Kaya hadn't fully registered. "I don't know. I can't do anything about it from here," Kaya responded suddenly terse. "It's going to take three people to replace that section of conduit, and I'm not going stick around looking for more damage until whatever pipe-crushing hostage-taking agri-capitolist it is this time is behind a force field." Kaya stopped herself and tried again. "We should ... wait outside." Isaiah Quinn

[ T’Laara - Turbolift] If this telepathic presence was so unusual, it was a definite indication that it was worth looking into, and that they going the right way. “I also do not know what it could be.” And that made her determined to find out. Close as she was, T’Laara clearly overheard the conversation through the other woman’s commbadge. It appeared that the telepath they were looking for may be in the secure labs, and connected to the missing plant after all. As for whether they would stay together, T’Laara was involved in this now, and had no intention of leaving until the situation was resolved. “I do not wish to leave until we discover what is happening. We are clearly getting closer to doing so, and I can still be of help. I will stay behind you,” she answered. The strange presence was, after all, in her mind as well. “Deck 20,” she instructed the computer, and the turbolift moved up again. When they arrived, she stepped back for Velal to go first, then followed close behind. Chief Melihn was on the way, so she didn't want to get too close to the secured labs until she arrived. Stepping out of the turbolift, she kept her hand on her phaser but didn't draw it just yet. Glancing back and forth down the corridor, she was for once relieved to see it empty. The lights were dim, signaling the use of the backup power relays, the same as had been on the deck they just left. It seemed Engineering had their work cut out for them when all this was done...

"Pleased to meet you, too," Enola let slip a Vulcan sound that smashed against compressed lips, while her chin lifted a little, from which movement a shallow nod could be discerned. She looked at the woman in front of her and didn't really know what to make of her at first. Obviously she seemed to be acquainted with Ozu. Nevertheless, a question came to the fore. Was this the deck of the hybrid? In the time since she had been aboard here, she had seen more hybrid races than she had in a year at the Academy. As the little Bolian listed his accomplishments, Enola grabbed the root of her nose with her fingertips before releasing them with a somewhat contorted sigh. Not really vulcan behavior, but it was one of those moments when Enola would have loved to hold her head against the nearest level ten force field. Children. She couldn't say she had anything against children in general, but they were loud, chaotic and excited. Not exactly the best points to make herself sympathetic to a Vulcan. Enola spent the turbolift ride in silence. Probably mostly because their small talk was just exasperating. She was a hopeless case there. ' Have you had a look yet? she asked. ---------- Tag Avi Moz , Enola , Jovireh Velal , Shavan Th'zhaar [Ensign Enola -> Deck 20]
Enola nodded softly. Maybe they should get a tour guide for the station so that other officers don't always have to be used as a stopgap measure. In front of the laboratory, she gazed at two women who apparently were expected by Chief Melihn. One with black eyes - Betazoid, and one with slanted eyebrows and pointed ears - Vulcan.
Hoping that Melihn didn't take it as carefully as Ozu with the introduction, Enola pressed her eyelids together, following the motto: What I can't see isn't there either. When she opened it, she paused. Was the Betazoid part-romulan? A little annoyed at the thought of how these two species might have found each other, Enola raised her eyebrows. both of them.
She nodded once to both women and then took a small step back to give the three free space. It would hardly help if she kept breathing Melihn's neck. _____________________

[PO2 Jovireh Velal - Front Ear - Deck 20]It was only a few moments before Chief Melihn was walking up to them, with a woman Jovireh hadn't seen before. A quick glance at her collar verified Ensign and Intelligence... and for a brief moment she froze. Did that mean they'd given up on the Caldonia Five? Had something happened to them that hadn't been released yet? No, she couldn't think about that now, there were far more pressing matters to worry about. Matters she could actually do something about. Refocusing her attention on Ryah, she shook her head in response to the question. "Negative, I decided it would be best to fill you in first. There's a strong psionic presence in this area, one that's unlike anything we've felt before." Her eyes darted to the other woman, noting the obvious Vulcan features. No... brow ridges... Another Romulan? In Starfleet? Her jaw clenched briefly as she redirected her focus once more. "We first noticed it after the power outage on Deck 26, and it's steadily getting stronger." It was likely the new arrival would be able to feel it as well, though may not be familiar enough with the station to recognize it as unusual. Jov found herself hoping the other Romulan - Romulan hybrid maybe? - had a bit more telepathic training than her or T'Laara and could be of more use in tracking the presence to the source. At the same time, she knew that was a long shot.

[ T’Laara - Deck 20] T’Laara stayed behind the Betazoid hybrid, as requested, while they waited for backup to arrive. Though delaying could give whatever they were after more time to get away, it was the most logical course of action. Something that could affect their minds and successfully break into the science labs could be dangerous- potentially much more so than the two of them could deal with alone. A mixed group of people then got off the turbolift: Ozu Saya, for some strange reason, Mott Moz, and two more Starfleet officers she did not recognize. She watched in silence as the latter two women approached them. When Velal spoke first to say they had not yet investigated the lab, and started to explain the situation, T’Laara nodded slightly in agreement. “A sample went missing from the botany lab on Deck 26 just before the power outage. We were attempting to locate it when we both sensed an unusual telepathic presence. We were already following it here when evidence of a breach on this deck was reported.” She glanced towards the doors to the lab, trying to sense the psionic being. “I believe we are getting closer.” Jovireh Velal Ozu Saya Enola

[ CPO Kaya Som | Jeffires Tubes, Dec 26 ]Chief Ozu was on her way, so Kaya sat down with her back on the opposite wall to wait. "We should ... wait outside." [NPC - PO1 S'Riia - The Tubes, Front Ear Station ] S'Riia wasn't sure if she'd call it a change in attitude, but it was obvious that Kaya was... agitated at least. The Caitian security officer had sat up against the wall, staring across the space, which began to feel like a chasm, at her friend. There was certainly cause for concern. If it was a single being that had telepathic powers and the strength to squeeze a conduit that size, it could crush either one of them in relative ease. Not to mention that in this confined area, defending against something like that would be far from idea. Though, there did seem to be one word that stood out among the rest. "'Hostage-taking'?" S'Riia repeated. There hadn't been any word of hostages being taken, but it didn't take long for S'Riia's mind to sift through recent history. "The colony?" Kaya had been among the officers captured on Serenity. The young engineer had found in a similar situation which S'Riia thought hit closer to home. "That Talorian.""Let's go," S'Riia answered simply. She took a deep breath as she sat there, her eyes searching out the Trill's. She didn't move right away. Instead, it was her lips that moved instead. "I don't know where your head is, Kaya. I can't promise that it ever gets easier, or that if you ever really feel safe. All I do know, is that it's bearable if you don't face it alone."S'Riia swallowed. "I know what it felt like for me to be taken... held captive... to have my life at the mercy of some monster [fn]No Good Deed[/fn]," said S'Riia. "You're left with a bundle of emotions like fear, anger, shame... and plenty of advice on how to should feel or how to handle it." S'Riia took a deep breath. "I try to distract myself with work... and friends... and hope. Hope that one day, it's not the first or the last thing on my mind."S'Riia shifted onto her knees ready to take Kaya's advice about waiting outside. She held out a hand towards Kaya. "So, if misery really loves company, know that it's not that far away."

[ CPO Kaya Som | Tubes -> Corridor on Dec 26, not far from the lab ]It was easier to talk about it than it had been. Kaya's counselor had acknowledged that the anxiety might never completely go away but that the treatment had healed her brain's trauma-warped pathways, and that the panic and dissociation would surely dull until it was completely gone. Kaya hadn't believed it at first, and part of her didn't want to let go of it, but now that it had mostly faded away things were better. And when the panic did start to rise, Kaya had tools to soothe it - like move when she felt she needed to move. So it was good that S'Riia was fine to head out to the open deck. S'Riia had plenty of words, and while Kaya didn't feel as verbose, it was nice to know that she wasn't crazy to have been affected. When S'Riia reached out to help her up, Kaya took it. "I'm fine," she replied as she began crawling back out of the tubes. It would be faster on the way out because she didn't have to have the tricorder out. "Treatment and time cleared the fog." Kaya had resisted at first, but it turned out there really was something concrete that could be done but no one ever talked about it. "I just hate imagining what other people think, which is gross in itself. Since when have I given ha-deh-zhi about that?" Kaya looked over her shoulder and made a face. She'd never worried about that before. It wasn't long before they were climbing out of the access hatch into Deck 26 proper, still lit by the emergency runners. Isaiah Quinn (S'Riia)

[Ensign Enola -> Deck 20 Science Labs]
Enola automatically wiped her gray collar at the look of the woman in yellow uniform. She understood that his presence caused a certain amount of speculation in some people. Especially with people whose friends have set out on this mission.
The part-Vulcan nodded half-heartedly, followed by a strained look. She desperately tried to derive her role in this incident. "Telepathic presence," she repeated the Vulcan's words and closed her eyes for a moment to feel something. Although she was trained in telepathy, she had never really trained to recognize another presence. But she felt something.
Enola raised her hand in a flash. “Stop. Please so that an intelligence officer also understands, who has just come from the academy and was thrown straight into a crazy station. A sample escaped !?" she began and raised an eyebrow critically." And this one is telepathic? And haunts the station? "

' Are you telling me that we're looking for some kind of telepathic plant that is causing power outages and moving through the station?!' She looked down at her hand phaser and wished she'd grabbed her compression rifle. ' How the hell do we catch a plant?' Ryah asked incredulously. [PO2 Jovireh Velal - Front Ear - Deck 20]Jov paused as both newcomers clarified the situation with disbelief, glancing over at T'Laara. "Um... I think we were leaning more towards someone had stolen the plant and was causing the power outages as a distraction..." She honestly wasn't sure which explanation made less sense, now that they had both been spoken out loud. "I was in the jungle where the missing sample came from," she continued, turning back to Ryah and the new Ensign. "There was a psionic presence there too, similar to the one we're feeling now, but not the same. We assumed I was picking up on the insects' hive mind, but..." Could it have really been the plants' hive mind? Regardless of what they were after, it was damaging the station, and moving farther away from them the longer they stood around talking about it. "We can keep in contact with Engineering about any more power outages, and track it down that way. Feels like it moved upwards again, maybe we should go to Deck 15 and see if we can narrow it down?" It seemed pointless to check in on the scientists in the secured lab now, since they hadn't seen anything other than the door opening, and she assumed they would have notified security if that had changed. Jovireh glanced between the other two telepaths there. "Whatever mental defenses you have, I suggest you put them up now. That thing on the planet caused enough neural damage I was on bedrest for a week." It was certainly not an experience she was eager to repeat, and felt she would have been negligent not to warn the others of the potential danger.
