[SCPO Jovireh Velal - Talor Prime - Lake Arp'uk Hotsprings]As Shavan retrieved the other person from behind the rock, the sight of an even more timid than usual Ic Arbrell made the sudden burst of panic she'd felt make even more sense. Unsurprisingly, he turned down her playful offer, and she gave him a reassuring smile. "No offense taken, Ic. Not everyone has the same varying tastes as Shavan." Ic wasn't exactly her 'type' either, but given the self-consciousness that was still radiating from him, Jov didn't want him to think less of himself for it. After all, he was cute enough that she wouldn't have turned him down if it had gotten to that... He was just a little too soft for her to be interested in pursuing on her own. At his request for alcohol, she laughed. "A bottle of uttaberry wine does sound wonderful right about now." Too bad she hadn't brought one with her. Sliding from her seat against the wall, she slid a little deeper into the spring and ducked briefly beneath the surface to let her entire body adjust to the hot water. A moment later she straightened again, smoothing a few soaked strands of hair from her face. "I don't suppose either of you brought anything?"

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] Staying closer to Ic when they emerged from behind the rock, Shavan relaxed in the hot water. He didn’t really think Jov and Ic were each other’s type, so he hadn’t been going to suggest as much. Though this might be more fun if they were. (They were both Betazoid, literally don’t even think about it.) Another amused half-smile following Ic’s reply about biting, though he held back saying anything to Jovireh’s reply about his own ‘varying tastes.’ Of course, his own preferences, or lack thereof, were far from secret. ( Still not thinking about it.) Not wanting to make Ic any more uncomfortable, Shavan readily went with the change of subject. “I don’t believe in ‘too early.’” Though unfortunately he had not brought utaberry wine, or anything else, and shook his head when Jov asked. “I left a bottle of something Talorian back in the rooms.” He wasn’t exactly sure what it was, but that was the fun of trying new things, right? [Ha'la T'Rok - Hot Springs, East Mountains]The bodyguard moved quietly toward the Springs, his feet sure and swift as he made his way through the woods of tall trees until finally, the path opened up to reveal the secluded, sacred pools. T'Rok paused for a moment, his mind always in battle-ready mode. He counted three, now all submerged in the holy waters, and all seemingly naked. Perhaps his Kam'Do had been mistaken, perhaps The Starfleet did not hide from their own natural forms, after all. Even without material coverings, T'Rok did not see the appeal these three obviously saw in each other. Judging by their movements and voices, they were preparing to copulate together. He found them all quite soft and unattractive. He cleared his throat and stepped forward. "Ambassador L'Sho will expect your presence at twilight, for a banquet he is throwing in your honour."Then the man bowed deeply, and began to back away.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Lake Arp'uk, East Mountains, Talor Prime ]Niles was working on memorizing the locations of the secondary relays and their backups for the saucer dorsal arrays, when a shape wound up blocking Talor's sun. Well, it wasn't as though the PADD was not backlit, so he hardly cared, and this was a reasonably public space so he had no real reasons to object to someone coming or going. However, when the shadow did not move, he looked over the edge of his PADD just as he heard a voice he would have been entirely happy never hearing again. L'Sho. Lovely. And fairly ordering him to attend a social event of some sort? Now, whether it was a universal translator issue not quite picking up on the variations of the Talorian language, the way the former Primary spoke, or just his disdain at having to make such a gesture, the Lieutenant certainly was no diplomat, and he most definitely was no linguist. And one thing he thrived on was clarity, for ambiguity was the bane of his existence, among others. Though the tone and words that were used were the sort he was entirely ready to answer with something along the lines of 'pound sand', but the Lieutenant lowered his PADD and took a deep breath, fully aware that he was dealing with a fully accredited foreign diplomat and he needed to maintain his professionalism, even with him. "Pardon me, Mister Ambassador, but may I ask you for a few clarifications?" Oh, L'Sho most certainly was not his favourite person in the universe all right; in fact, he was firmly on his 'do not like' list; however, the Lieutenant was also fully aware of who he was dealing with, and just how much L'Sho enjoyed his posting and the people he was required to interact with. "First of all, what is the local definition of twilight? I would hate to be late because of such a misunderstanding. And where is this event to be held? Furthermore, I would be grateful if you could provide some context, if you please? I'm afraid there may be a... linguistic issue at hand and I am unable to tell if your statement meant to be informational, an invitation, or an imperative?"Now, if there had been a problem with the UT and it was how it rendered the words or L'Sho had just been his typical pleasant self, Niles could live with the first two possibilities. Hell, he might even attend if it was but a poorly worded invitation. However, being ordered to attend an event by a foreign diplomat? That was the sort of thing he would have to kick up the chain, even if Commander Ellis was, like him, on leave. [Ambassador L'Sho, former Primary of Talor, former Supreme Commander of the Talorian Armada - Overlook, Lake Arp'uk]He had already walked away when the voice came; questioning needlessly. All of the words. L'Sho's shoulders stiffened, and he turned to regard this Niles one coolly as he spoke on and on, without giving L'Sho the opportunity to actually provide answers. Once it was clear the human was finished, the Ambassador responded, some confusion evident in his tone despite his impatience. "You require me to explain myself? I am your host, in a place where you are a guest, and I have planned a banquet in honour of you and your fellow officers." L'Sho had met many windbags during his time in politics. He mentally added Lieutenant Niles to that list, then he whipped out his personal digital planner with a flourish, and began tapping queries. "Twilight is defined as the period when the sun is below the horizon. Today in the East Mountains of Talor Prime, the sun is due to set at 18:01 your time. The event will be held in the guest lobby, when the best of Talorian delicacies will be offered for our guests' enjoyment. I myself, as host, will be wearing my formal white robes, but guests are not beholden to any dress codes." He tucked his device away. "It is amazing the information I can find out about Talorian culture, while on Talor."He turned again, this time with no intention of stopping a second time. "Your attendance is your business, Lieutenant Niles. Our evening will be no less for your absence." Burn - as the humans would say.

[Felicity Ellis - Lake Arp'uk]Felicity noticed movement in her peripheral vision, and looked up from untying the auk just in time to see L'Sho and his shadow march in her direction. Crap. Crapcrapcrapcrapcrap. She ducked, pretending she hadn't seen them, and then hurried to get herself launched and on the water. Surely she wouldn't have to speak to the Ambassador if she was a mile away, on a boat? Thankfully it seemed they were bent on something, or someone else, so when Felicity pushed herself from the jetty with one of the short oars, she was in the clear. She took hold of the other oar and began to paddle in a slow, practiced rhythm, out into the lake at large. It had been a while since she'd been on the water, but while the memory of the feeling might fade a little, you never truly forget. After a minute or two, she'd forgotten about L'Sho and the ellipse and blame. She embraced the silence and the almost icy blue tint of the horizon. Eventually, she pulled the oars in and positioned herself to lean back, eyes up toward the sky, one hand trailing in the water, glancing fingertips along the surface. She failed to notice the immense silhouette that glided beneath her kayak, but the gentle sway of the boat turned sharply more pronounced. Somewhere to her left, something slapped against the water. Frowning, Felicity sat back up properly, eyes sharp and scanning for the source of the disturbance.

[ Ensign Ic Arbrell — Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] Ah, yes, Shavan’s tastes. He wasn’t sure if it was a spectrum in the form of a mobius on which Jovireh probably spanned an impressive interval, or a numbered scale at which she undoubtedly placed highest in comparative value. He was certain that by those qualifiers, he was a hue outside of representation, able only to be sensed by its absence; in the negatives, an outlier, and therefore should not be counted. Ic was not a person but a supercharged experience. Not the senses of a jacarine in the mouth or hand, nor the pleasure of eating the piece of fruit; he was the unnamed emotion of brief adrenal surge from a spritz off the rind, existing more greatly in metaphor than any real substance. As if to preserve the fleeting feeling of him, they handled him with kid gloves. Things were clearer when people thought in words, but everything was louder when they shared intentions. He hadn’t landed his attempt to play off his discomfort; they just didn’t want to make him feel bad. And while it was very, very kind of them— and that was exactly why he liked the two of them as much as he did, and wanted to make the right impression— Ic got the sense, rightly or otherwise, that the dynamic, the vibe, had shifted. He felt like some nerdy little sister hanging around the cool teens. There was no way he was going to be able to play harmony to that. In his continued, futile attempt of doing so, however, he caught notice of a poorly muted thought. It moved in and out of perception, avoided like sleep on a double shift, creeping in peripheral flashes of flesh and— Something Talorian approached for a perfect (— hello, fit naked man) distraction. Or maybe not so much, when he found the formerly obscured thought reflected all too plainly in the stranger’s thoughts. The invitation— or was it an imperative?— to dinner was welcome, at least. “Thank you, sir,” Ic said quietly, a sound thinned by steam and insufficiency (and great doubt that he would actually be so thankful, but Ic couldn’t bear to be rude). “So, pregaming, I guess. I can grab the drinks, you two can relax, and if you think of anything else you need—” He already regretted this as he tapped his temple: “You know how to get a hold of me.”He wondered if he could go with the Talorian to get a few glasses or recommendations of which of their liquors was best if he didn’t want to remember anything the next day. And granted, he'd have little enough pleasure as of late. Hell, as it stood being able to walk without a cane had been the highlight of the last little while... though he might have to lean on the damn thing came dinnertime; the hike to get to this particular spot had not been particularly gentle. Though, once the Ambassador was done with his answers, the Lieutenant inclined his head graciously. "Thank you, Mister Ambassador," he answered in his best diplomatic tone. "I'll be sure to attend." Well, at least he had packed something a little less casual when he'd come down from the ship, so it wouldn't be just the comfortable wear he'd selected. However, technically he was not supposed to accept that kind of hospitality directly, so it was with a sigh that he reached into his jacket's inner pocket and withdrew his commbadge. =A= "Lieutenant Niles to Commander Ellis. [SCPO Jovireh Velal - Talor Prime - Lake Arp'uk Hotsprings]Was Ic always this loud, or was it the strength of his emotions causing him to project his thoughts more than he did otherwise? Before she could say anything else, a gruff voice spoke behind her, and she turned to see one of L'Sho's bodyguards standing there. After he spoke, she nodded in acknowledgement. "Thank you, we'll be there." It seemed rather odd to her that the Ambassador that hated them so much was throwing a banquet 'in their honor'. Jovireh made a mental note to subtly scan all that was offered to make sure he wasn't intending to poison them all at once and blame it on their inferior digestive systems. The thought distracted her enough that it wasn't until the Talorian was backing away that she recalled an important piece of information was missing. "Where will it be held?"When Ic spoke and moved to get out of the water, she turned to look at him again, hoping that he wasn't using the lack of alcohol as an excuse to leave the springs indefinitely. If that was the case, there was one thing she wanted to let him think about. "Ic, wait," she silently called out, resorting to telepathy so Shavan didn't feel caught between them. "There's no such thing as 'better than' when we're both so different. In personality and body, we each provide what the other cannot. It's not a competition, it's complimentary." That was something she wished more people understood. Perhaps jealousy about multiple partners wouldn't be so prevalent. Though she did admire the other Betazoid for staying as long as he did. Conor would have taken one look at Shavan and walked away, and she hadn't even gone beyond flirting and friendship with him. Jovireh made no attempt to hide that admiration from the other empath, hoping it would help him know she was being sincere.

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] Shavan looked up when a brief interruption came in the form of a Talorian. However, the man was apparently not another visitor to the springs, but here to issue a request. Well, that was sure to be… interesting. Though he was almost curious to see if this Ambassador L'Sho was really as bad as everyone said. “Okay, we will,” he agreed when Jov said they would be there, and listened as she called the Talorian back to ask where to go. Ic then offered to go get drinks in the intervening time, which did still sound like a good idea, though Shavan didn’t want him to leave. What almost came to mind at the way he had said anything else was quickly ignored. (Okay, he maybe had been thinking about it before.) “Come back soon then, yeah?” he answered with a smile in the apparent silence that followed. Felicity Ellis Ic Arbrell Jovireh Velal

[ Myker Vulbrix - Lake Arp'uk, Talor Prime] Myker had spotted the ambassador on his approach and much to the Betazoid’s relief the Talorian seemed to have little interest in him rather making a beeline for the Lieutenant. Not that the Betazoid had any specific prejudice against the ambassador, he just hated everyone currently no matter the race. That said he was still Starfleet and so if he’d been forced into an interaction he’d remain polite. Myker observed the back and forth between the two and it was obvious they weren’t friends. Moving from his spot, duty luring him into the middle of the exchange between the two. He was in communications after all and he tended to be good at it despite having no real social skills. This wasn't 'social' judging from the body language of both parties it seemed to be more 'official'. The ambassador's disdain for the lieutenant was obvious, and Niles who no doubt he was trying his best to be polite, clearly didn't have very lofty views of the Talorian either. Myker didn't even need his telepathy to work that one out, he just couldn't work out the source of the animosity between the two and he questioned whether he ought to have done some research into the Talorians and their relationship with Starfleet, that would've been a better use of time that brooding like a sullen teenager. At least here he could be useful, he could effectively hold a conversation and not create a diplomatic incident. Although it seemed whatever conversation had occurred was coming to an abrupt end, Myker still found his way over, stopping just as Niles contacted the commander. "Whatever you did to piss him off, he doesn't like you." Myker stated the obvious with a glance to the Lieutenant and then the ambassador.. Myker had yet to determine if the Talorian’s issue was with Starfleet, humans or just the lieutenant.

And then, in the blink of that eye, a water beast of another kind appeared right in front of her, dangling upside down. "Hello, Lieutenant," she returned, her face paling instantly. Felicity gulped, and then turned to look at the squid-like behemoth that had a firm grip on Rin Zakir with one of its appendages. It was just kind of waiting there for something. "Uh... Greetings." She had no idea what this being was. There'd been no mention of it anywhere in her Talorian Culture Pack. It could be sentient, it could even have a language. Maybe it was offering her Rin as a gift, or maybe it was waiting for the opportune time to dine on him. Slowly she reached for one of the oars. Her fingers wrapped around it and she began to rise up from her seated position, slowly, gradually, not wanting to literally or figuratively rock the boat with too sudden movements. She held out the oar, meaning for her Sec/Tac Officer to take it. "You have a lovely home."Her thumb brushed over the commbadge, reactivating the channel. =/\= "Niles, if you look in the general direction of the lake, you will see a sea creature of some kind, and you will see Lieutenant Rin in a speedo, suspended in air. You really can't miss it. Please try and identify this creature for me, and let me know if Bajoran might be on its menu. Quickly. Thanks." =/\= Felicity's eyes were back on Rin, checking for damage. "Yes, he is a nice Lieutenant, I agree," she continued blathering on to the creature, voice lilting gently and tone conversational.

{Quotes: Arbrell, Velal, Th'zhaar} [ Ensign Ic Arbrell — Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] Ah, yes, Shavan’s tastes. [Ha'la T'Rok - Hot Springs, East Mountains]"I believe it is to take place in the guest lobby." T'Rok bowed again, still moving backward as he answered the query. It was a logical one. Each one of them accepted without protest, and the ha'la was beginning to wonder if his Kam'Do might be generalising. But that was not for T'Rok to decide. Nor was it something he was capable of giving much more thought to. As he began to leave the clearing, he noticed of course that one of the human-like people was leaving the Springs. He paused for a moment, and then addressed them. "Do you require an escort, chu'ta[fn]young; small.[/fn]? I am to return to the the guest caves and to my duty to Ambassador L'Sho. I can accompany you through the woods."

[ Ensign Ic Arbrell — Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] “I know,” he returned quickly, as if rushing the end of Jovireh's remark, and without making any indication his attention had split. His thoughts were clearer than his language, firmer, direct; they congealed with conviction in an instant, but were not without the same ineffable sensitivity he carried in every other part of him. At least his tenderness was not lost in translation, the way his feelings in their hundreds of thousands seemed to be. Ic knew from the moment he’d worked out Shavan-and-Kova, and affirmed when picked up on Shavan-and-Jovireh, that it was never going to be a “competition”. He'd accepted that a lot more easily than he expected himself to, for a first real-person crush. Actually, he had kind of been okay with it all, glad for a scrap of attention sometimes, building a blind spot for Shavan’s thoughts meanwhile as much as he could figure out how to do, for both their sakes. But the ellipse had changed things. And in the days and the nights Shavan and Ic (without the dashes) did not spend together since, and the years of torturing himself with the knowledge he was not enough, he supposed he’d been waiting for something like this to stop himself hoping for more this time. Maybe it had nothing to do with feelings, and all to do with fact. They all hummed on similar frequencies. And he— well, he wondered why the dashing Shavan ever came back to awkward, shy, socially disastrous Ic Arbrell in the first place when he had his pick of the galaxy. What was appealing about that for a thrillseeker, especially juxtaposed with more exciting prospects? The others were so vibrant, clever, fun, and they probably wouldn’t have said something as how much he— Dashed, dashed to hell. The rest followed promptly, barely sorted into linear fashion for the speed at which it came, like the thoughtform of a tesseract: “I appreciate your saying so. It’s just a little more complicated than that.”A pretty, if somewhat queasy, little smile softened the stress in his face when Shavan spoke again. Maybe he was imagining the subtle ripple of lavender, the slightest shift in gravity. Maybe it was the persistent prurience returning. Whether or not it was real, he obeyed it for just a moment. Ic didn’t much make eye contact outside private quarters, but he held Shavan’s gaze for longer than even they were used to, a gesture far more intimate (for Ic) than he would have dared in company any other time. The temptation to finally land the kiss stolen from Shavan’s cheek was tender and great, though ultimately supplanted by his desire to avoid bringing all that up again. “You won’t even miss me.”He was careful to get out of the water and collect his robe in such a way that did not reveal to Jovireh one minor detail she’d been wrong about; there was one way they weren’t much different at all. Ic turned most of his attention to the Talorian now, whose kind offer as an escort made him wonder if the difficult opinions many seemed to have about their hosts had wrongly influenced his own first impressions. But sample size and population and anecdotal-subjective evidence being what they were, Ic balanced his usual guard with the openness he used with friends. He wasn’t going to let it stop him enjoying the sense of comfort that a kind and helpful man always offered, though, especially one calling him by some cute(?) name in fragile moments like these. It was important to just move on, and stop looking back. “You’re very kind, sir. I’d be much obliged for your time, if it’s not too much trouble. Knowing me, I’d just step off a cliff into the lake and probably be eaten by a giant squid or something. I mean, I’m not dumb, just… get lost in my head sometimes. I’m Ic. Hi.”A brisk sigh tried to purge the tingle of anxiety from his veins as he started back the direction he'd arrived from. As Elouan had reminded him time and time again, it was important to move on.

[SCPO Jovireh Velal - Talor Prime - Lake Arp'uk Hotsprings]For that, Jov didn't have an answer. Of course it was more complicated, it always was. But without knowing the full context, there was only so much she could advise on. At least he seemed to find somewhat of a distraction in the Talorian's offer to escort him. She watched in silence as they disappeared, before releasing a heavy sigh and turning back to Shavan, whom gratefully seemed unaware of the brief telepathic exchange. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make things awkward." Had she known it had been Ic hiding behind the rock... She would have politely excused herself to let them have their time. Or, if there had been a protest, at the very least she would have remained clothed. But it was too late for any of that now. Jov moved a little deeper into the spring, letting the heat of the water and the steam surrounding her cleanse the lingering emotions from her senses.
