[Felicity Ellis - Lake Arp'uk, East Mountains, Talor Prime]Approx. two weeks following the events of Season 2, Mission 9: Through The Looking-GlassAs beautiful as her cave room was, Felicity had had enough of it. Well, perhaps not the room itself, which was built into a labyrinthine network of small guest studios in the side of a cliff, but more specifically what she'd been doing in it. Since leaving the ellipse Felicity had been listening to logs obsessively. Namely, her own. Or more accurately, her future self's. The Felicity who had been stuck in the spatial anomaly for decades had kept detailed and fascinating accounts of their time trapped inside. It was her own voice, but not. Some parts she understood, and then there were other, more vague entries that she did not, and thus her imagination took over. It had gotten to a point when she couldn't differentiate between the woman in the logs, and her own thoughts. Despite her fixation, Felicity recognised the need to stop. She needed a break, and this beautiful place should have been her perfect getaway. The air outside was crisp, yet it was considered the warmer season in this part of Talor Prime. She could feel power in those suns beating down on her face, but she was dressed for cool weather. Her hiking boots echoed with a faint thump as she approached the small jetty. She'd spied the Talorian auk[fn]float[/fn] when she'd arrived, and had marvelled at the time at its similarity to Earth's small, manual watercrafts. As someone who had grown up kayaking every summer on the Vaal, she was very interested in testing those similarities. Going from the noise of her own voice to the almost eerie emptiness of silence on Lake Arp'uk would likely prove to be jarring, but she was determined to do something remotely resembling relaxation over the next five days. She recognised the sight of Ambassador L'Sho's personal Talorian craft as it quietly swooped overhead. It was headed toward the old monastery's landing pad, suggesting that the Talorian pain in the ass was finished with his meetings. Had she been on duty she may have gone to greet him, but she wasn't on duty. She was on vacation.

[Ambassador L'Sho, former Primary of Talor, former Supreme Commander of the Talorian Armada - Chamber of the Council of Scholars[fn]First appearance: here[/fn], Talor City]"Next item on the agenda is another complaint against you, Ambassador." L'Rek, former Secondary and driving force behind L'Sho's ousting, was smug in his new position as Primary. He sat in his elevated chair, gazing down upon him with a sneer twisting his mouth. He was so comfortable in his position that he did not attempt to hide his derision. "What is it this time?" Councilor G'Reya demanded, her demeanour unimproved since their last meeting. She made a dissatisfied snorting sound which echoed around the half-empty chamber. "You have offended The Starfleet so much Ambassador that it is a wonder they have not yet declared war."L'Sho found it pitiful that their attitudes toward the Federation had changed so much since his public disgrace. They had decried Starfleet's involvement, and used his participation in their plans during the Event on Talor some months ago as a weapon against him. It had wielded a mortal blow, and the decision to remove the Primary position from him had been unanimous. They were a treacherous, capricious bunch, and L'Sho had no respect for any of them. As they grew flabby in the middle he would plot hundreds of ways of getting his revenge. "The complaint mentions something about the inappropriate use of public property. What is the meaning of this?"The Ambassador met the new Primary's gaze with a cold, unmoved stare of his own. "I went for a dawn swim in the small body of water in one of their open, natural areas. They were offended by my lack of clothing.""What is this? You try to deceive us now, L'Sho." "It is truth, Elder Bladohn. The humans do not allow nudity.""Enough of these deceptions, Ambassador, lest you desire to lose another finger. You cannot fool us with your petty manipulations."L'Sho remained silent and calm. He was entertaining himself by trying to list the members of the council in order of stupidity in his mind, and then in order of rotundness. Councilor Het'ck was definitely the largest. "Is it time to order the spiced let'ki?[fn]Sea creature, not unlike Earth's eel; a delicacy served boiled and with garal[/fn]" He asked, proving L'Sho's point. The Ambassador wasn't sure he'd ever heard the man talk about anything else during these insufferable meetings. "Yes, I believe it is time. Ambassador L'Sho, where are our guests from The Starfleet presently?""They are desecrating the sacred waters of Arp'uk as we speak, Primary.""Good. Entertain them. Ensure their stay is enjoyable. Show them the beauty of Talor. Perhaps they might learn something." Then the Primary dismissed him with a flick of the hand. Stiffly, L'Sho bowed, and then swept from the room, his cloak billowing grandly. He flew around the planet three times before returning to the guest caves at Lake Arp'uk.

[Shavan Th’zhaar - East Mountains, Talor Prime]
For the past two weeks nearly all of Shavan's on-duty time, and then some, had been devoted to Arbrell’s Ellipse. He had studied the decades worth of data the scientists on the other Mac had compiled until he was too tired to think straight. Had gone over and over their own brief time there and the workings of the forces which had sent that other ship back to them. Had sought to connect it with new ideas, trying to find anything else that could be done.
Ic Arbrell himself had also been on his mind, in different ways and more than he was willing to admit.
A need to know had driven him to search his own name in the logs the other Mac had sent over. Privately, in a darkened room, Shavan finally saw the file on himself that contained little more than the one in their own database, with the exception of a date of death. The image that came up next had flickered, the file corrupted with age. In a short series of long-forgotten logs, he saw the extent of what the ellipse had done. He saw a reflection of himself, that changed to death and madness wearing his own face.
None of it was easy to forget.
Lucky he was so used to trying.
The present surroundings brought some relief, a chance to relax, have some fun, let things settle back into whatever passed as normal. It was a brief but welcome distraction, at least. Their destination was maybe not his first choice for a vacation, but while he had heard much about the Talorians, this could be his first time actually meeting one. With recent events pushed to the back of his mind, Shavan left the accommodations in the caves, and began making his way out. His path went toward the hot springs. Though he was mostly seeking whatever constituted the most entertainment here.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Lake Arp'uk, East Mountains, Talor Prime ]
Normally, Talor Prime would not have been anywhere near one Joshua Niles' list of places to go for any kind of shore leave. Especially not when he had just received a set of temporary, yet indefinite, transfer orders effective as soon as the Wyvern would swing towards their neck of the woods to pick up their head of security... and a certain Lieutenant. And along with those orders had come a hefty study package for the recently refitted New-Orleans class ship, and the expectation that he could at least come close to approximating hitting the deck running. Or at least hobbling, given that he had just been cleared to return to starship duty.
However, for this particular set of leave, he had taken a step he otherwise would have never considered: he hadn't brought a single uniform down to the surface with him, and save for a handful of PADDs the only item in his possession that had been standard-issue had been his commbadge and credentials... which he fully intended to leave deep in his pockets and never bring out lest he had absolutely no choice at all.
And on this particular day, he had chosen some suitably casual clothes to go out on a hike, including, for the very first time, the boots that Charlie had given him, a gift to make up losing a rather sizable breakfast on his feet what felt several lifetimes ago. His walk had taken him to a very nice overlook with a view of the lake, where he had found a place to sit and stretch his legs, most importantly the one that was no longer entirely of flesh and blood, and he had his attention firmly on the PADD in his hands and the vagaries of how the upgraded and updated phaser power systems were routed and arranged rather than the beauty of the local terrain.

[ Ensign Ic Arbrell — Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] He could reason working again following his first near-death experience. It was a means to regain some kind of normalcy, a comfort after his telepathy was taken away. He needed it like a bit of therapy, if only to busy himself from the anxiety that it might somehow happen again. It was important to take the time to appreciate it, some kind of prodromal grief, in order to work alongside it again. He could justify going straight back to his lab after experiencing his first near death the month after, for similar reasons. Ic wanted to test himself then, to see if he loved the work more than he felt useless at it, to see how well exactly life went on, knowing it wasn’t going to get any less grim. He had trusted his mother’s advice when it felt like he might not be good enough… and she’d led him into the ellipse. Vacation proved difficult to refuse when suggested this time, though. It was hard to believe that he actually deserved it for how little he’d done (—how many hell-scarred years he’d given), but he couldn’t shake the little voice in the back of his head (strangely, not unfamiliar) that told him it was necessary. As hesitant as he was to go anywhere off the station again, especially where the major attraction was a lake, a safe stay outdoors would do the Betazoid (—and the lingering of a mania from decades sequestered in the dark) some irrefutable good. And then there was the issue of his social life. True to his tendency to withdraw in the face of even potential conflict, he slowed down on the job. Took longer to read, longer to report, double-checked his equations by hand. Ic had made himself a little less available alongside it, in part to reestablish his sanity and professionalism as a scientist, in part to allow both himself and Shavan the space to pretend that nothing at all had changed. (But it had. Ic had spent so much time trying to keep himself in his own head, he knew the hallmarks of himself all too well. He wouldn’t have said anything then if it didn’t change something now— for better or worse.) The same three phrases that accompanied him out of the ellipse repeated, still. They woke him up. They followed him outside. They whispered in every bare footstep out to the hot springs (where he could see the ground, thanks) until he dropped them with a cotton robe on a nearby rock, and let it all melt in the pool. The minutes passed, five, ten, and he listened to the world around him again, almost at ease. Worst timing ever reared its tone again when he sensed the familiar smudge of his affection moving easily into his periphery. He was glad that the strongest Betazoid profanities he knew didn’t have verbal equivalents or he’d have given himself away too quickly, and without the decorum he’d more recently used. “Hey,” Ic said quietly, moving closer to the edge of the spring, halfway hiding behind a rock to see if Shavan had come, unlike himself, dressed. “Sorry— I— Well, I’m… I should, um— I mean, I just thought, ‘when on Talor,’ so— you know what, it’s fine, pretend I’m not even in here, full Talorian. Totally cool.” Totally. Shavan Th'zhaar

[SCPO Jovireh Velal - Talor Prime - Lake Arp'uk]Dear Jovireh,
I hope this communication finds you well. I have been studying the letter-writing conventions of the United Federation of Planets and I beg your pardon for any misstep on my part. Talorians tend not to engage in this way but I must admit that I find it quite appealing.
I will introduce myself. My name is Kaela, daughter of Kaelpra, late diplomatic advisor to the Primary. I am writing to you to speak of my father, and to share some thoughts he had about your meeting, and my feelings upon hearing those thoughts. It is because of your people that I have been allowed access to these logs, and for that I express my gratitude.
My father was not a scientist like me, nor was he what you might call a typical Talorian. Perhaps the only thing he and I really ever had in common was our shared wonder for the new and undiscovered. My wonder was always for that which I could not see or touch; his for those he had yet to meet. Despite our many differences, however, he was a wonderful father. He was kind, supportive and I believe he could have done great things for the relations of our respective peoples had he been permitted to.
The last several entries to his personal notes held an excited, hopeful tone. He spoke of you at length and of your conversation. He mentioned you discussed food, culture and that your openness regarding your own background was refreshing and illuminating. Throughout his last weeks he had become somewhat paranoid and his optimism for these joint ventures between Talorians and Starfleet was waning. And then he met you, and some of his old spark for adventure returned.
Kaelpra claimed that he felt he had known you for much longer; that perhaps it was possible to encounter a kindred soul of another species. He theorised that if this was the case, then there was hope for us all. He called you friend.
That my father knew this kindness in his final hours has brought me great peace. I thank you for giving me this. It is a gift I can never repay - but please know that should you require me to, I will forever be available.
My warm regards, Kaela Daughter of Kaelpra
Jovireh had read this message countless times since receiving it months ago. While normally she left the PADD in a drawer in her office, upon finding out that she would part of the crew escorting Ambassador L'Sho to his homeworld she'd felt compelled to bring it with her. The man the message referred to was in no small part the reason she was here. It had been her very first mission on the Mac, still a self-conscious and uncertain Crewman. In the too-brief time they'd known each other, the Talorian had seen potential in her that no one else had. He helped her to see it in herself. Jovireh's... unusual reaction to finding his body had resulted in her first of many meetings with Judith Eastman, whom came to also see the potential buried within. Now, a year later, she was on that man's homeworld, and had just received her fifth promotion and placed in charge of her entire department. She wished Kaelpra was here to be her guide to his home and culture, and that her progress over the past year had been due to their continued friendship rather than his murder. But reading the message from his daughter brought her comfort, and Jov sincerely hoped they'd be able to meet while she was here. For now though, she was supposed to enjoying a vacation while Taggert was still available to handle the department on the station, since it was unlikely she would get a similar opportunity for quite some time once he left. With a heavy sigh, she slid the PADD back into her bag and stretched, and turned her mind to the recreational opportunities. They all sounded relaxing... It was difficult to decide which she felt like doing most. Maybe she really did need to go on shore leave more often. Finally deciding the hot springs combined the view, the relaxation, and potential company all in one place... She changed into more appropriate attire and left her cavernous room. The black hair and antennae that she glimpsed as she rounded the corner brought a small smile to her face. "Should have known you'd be here," she greeted Shavan with a slight playful tone in her voice, not noticing the person already in the water hidden from view.

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] Nearing the hot springs, Shavan had just started to strip (he was dressed out of habit, not any discomfort at being seen otherwise, though of course he didn’t intend on going into the water as such) when he heard Ic call out to him. The same voice had been echoing in his head for the past two weeks, I loved you remembered amid simultaneous flashes of hope and bitter denial. Even so, the corners of his lips twitched, almost in a smile, at the stammered words. It wasn’t like there was anything in that hot spring that he hadn’t seen before. “Why would I do that?” he replied lightly to ‘pretend I’m not here’. Things didn’t have to be different now. It was okay, that this version of Ic didn’t feel that way. It would be okay. For the best. It had to be. They hadn’t had a moment in private since that day in the ellipse… though it would seem they weren’t quite in private now, either. He looked up, smile habitually widening at the approach of someone else he knew well. At least Jovireh never added any complications. “It sounded like it might be nice,” Comfortable in both their presence and fully undressed now, he slid into the hot water next to Ic. As he felt the relaxing heat, he glanced invitingly back at Jov to see if she would follow. Ic Arbrell Jovireh Velal

[ Myker Vulbrix - Lake Arp'uk, East Mountains, Talor Prime]
The caves reminded him of Serenity, where a raider attack had sent them into the caves for some semblance of security, or even the caves on Betazed, when their planet was taken by the Dominion and he along with others of the resistance had to shelter, for their sake and that of their homeworld. Those were some of the thoughts occupying the Betazoid's mind as he stared at the off-grey walls of his cabin. Although these caves were cabins, designed to house guests to the planet, Myker felt no less trapped. Of course this had nothing to do with his space within the cave system but had everything to do with the lasting memory of a certain crew. He’d reviewed the logs, listening as various members of the crew recounted parts of their stay in the ellipse. He’d yet to review the log left by his older self, the one that contained an entry everyday.
Enroute to Talorian prime, Myker had slowly put back the shields in his mind that had been so gloriously shattered by the head injury he’d sustained. Medical were not impressed with his dodging them for almost 48 hours after they’d cleared the ellipse. To anyone he seemed like he was back to himself and he would keep it that way, despite the internal torment that plagued his mind making true relaxation a fleeting dream. No rest for the wicked was an old human adage that seemed to find truth in him. Not that he could be considered wicked but nothing left one unable to rest like a broken conscience.
He’d taken to the outdoors to try and ease his troubled mind having no interest in interacting with a single soul he set out on a lone walk. The planet had this sort of serene atmosphere, its lake and hot springs prompting relaxation and calm. None of which Myk found as he walked through the dense greenery that framed the lake, the man choosing to avoid the hot springs that would no doubt draw a crowd.
Myker was dressed in black cargo pants, equipped with so many pockets one would think he intended to work on some major project. He didn't and only one of the pockets contained his comm badge, in case a dire situation occured. He wore a black t-shirt and a light bomber jacket over just enough to fend off the slight cool and his feet were clad with a military style boot which helped to navigate the terrain. Over dressed by Talorian standards, but Myker remained considerate of his human and otherwise crew mates who wouldn't take too kindly to his adherence to the dress code of Talor...or rather the no-dress code.
He was going to head to the lake, stand on the jetty and just take in the view for a moment but having caught a glimpse of their commander he changed his mind. He had no intention of interacting with Felicity especially not with his own unresolved troubles so bubbling just below the shields he'd forced in place over his mind and emotions connected to Ellipse. His redirected route led him to an overlook, where he could admire the view just the same as he'd have done on the jetty. The presence of someone else didn't escape his notice but while the other person, who Myker only recognised by his mental signature as Lieutenant Niles, was absorbed in his reading the Betazoid wouldn't disturb him. Myker's gaze fell on the landscape, his posture uncharacteristically relaxed as he let himself breath for a while. Confident in his own mind that it wouldn't reach into others he let his mind empty, the demons that plauged him pouring into the landscape of Telor as Myker hoped to find peace for his troubled mind.

[ Ensign Ic Arbrell— Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] Ic could think of about a dozen reasons why anyone might pretend he wasn’t nude in a crystal clear hot spring, and a few more on top of that why Shavan would specifically. In his delay determining the best phrasing for you would have a better time without me, a set of intrusions from behind the thin obscurity that separated them froze his dallying tongue. Did Shavan really think that the future’s use of the past tense didn’t mean it wasn’t true in the present? Sure, the ellipse-maddened Betazoid meant it a little differently, dressed the confession in his own dark wounds, but he’d been speaking for the ensign who should have said it in the first place. He, Ic Arbrell, 23, had not disputed it nor attempted to — unless the space he laid between himself and Shavan had unintentionally done it for him. How could that possibly be okay? Speech unstuck itself for a ready (if piteously fawning) defense, but the worst timing ever cut the queue of his thoughts again when Jovireh Velal, better in every way, arrived. His heart leapt into his throat as if to hide itself now, too, and there it grew at the pace of his pulse with a thick and scalding ache. Ic moved as quietly as he could even further behind the rock that obscured him from the patio, and lower in the water, as if that would make him less visible even if she happened to glance in the spring. Even having already acclimated to the heat, it was intense when the water level breached his face. Maybe his fear of drowning would override the crush of bruising emotions that flooded in And when his favorite color slipped bare into the water beside him, he couldn’t stop the wide-eyed look that devoured from ankle to shoulder, as if it were the last of the sight he’d ever get. He couldn’t help the slightest lean of his body toward Shavan, even if he didn’t dare touch or speak anymore. Maybe he could pretend he wasn’t here himself. Shavan Th'zhaar Jovireh Velal

[SCPO Jovireh Velal - Talor Prime - Lake Arp'uk Hotsprings]At the clear invitation to join him in the water, Jov smirked and shed her own clothing. She had considered keeping her swimwear on; considering she was the one that had told L'Sho he needed to be clothed in public, it felt a bit hypocritical. But she had also mentioned that she was raised in a culture that embraced the natural state... This would be the time to prove that she had simply been doing her job. And even that relied upon any Talorians joining them. As she stepped towards the edge of the water, a sudden wave of panic struck her, causing a small gasp as her heart hammered wildly and her throat clenched. Grasping the rail beside her to steady herself, Jov closed her eyes to fight against the inexplicable fear, dread and shame that settled in her bones. A few deep breaths later, she was able to separate it as someone else, and opened her eyes to look around for the source. It was clearly not Shavan... But it was coming from his general direction. "Well that's one way to find out we're not alone," she commented with an amused grin, recovering herself and finally stepping into the warm water. Wading deeper in, she lowered herself until most of her body was submerged and leaned back against the stone wall. Her gaze turned to the large rock beside Shavan, where whomever was panicking seemed to be trying to hide. "You can come out, you know. I won't bite." Her expression shifted to a slightly devious one as her eyes darted to the other hybrid once more. "At least, not unless you want me to." Her voice was still elevated slightly, so the hidden person would know she was talking to them.

Not even the winds generated by the sleek engines of his personal craft could coax a reaction from the steadfast bodyguard. L'Sho dispensed with greetings, and T'Rok knew better than to ask how the meetings with the Council had unfolded. He knew better than to say pretty much anything unless specifically asked. "Where are the humans and the human-adjacents?" L'Sho then specifically asked. "There are a number of them at the Springs, Ambassador. The Command one is down by the lake's edge I believe, while two others are walking along the overlook."The Talorians' pace was brisk as they entered the guest area. As L'Sho raised his arm imperiously, previously unseen attendants rushed forward from whatever nooks or crannies birthed them and obediently awaited the former Primary's instructions. "There is to be a banquet this eve," he informed them, still striding toward the natural archway that led to the lake's trail, "For our honoured guests." If Talorians had an upchuck reflex, L'Sho's would surely have been triggered at referring to the humans in such a respectful manner. "All traditional Talorian delicacies. I will host."They nodded wordlessly, and took off in a flurry. L'Sho turned then to his bodyguard. "T'Rok, extend invitations to those partaking in the sacred Springs. I will handle the others."And so the pair separated, one albeit a little more reluctant at the prospect of leaving his charge for long. He hurried toward the Hot Springs. L'Sho's gait was equally as purposeful. He approached the one he knew as Lieutenant Niles, who seemed engrossed in reading a PADD. It was probably one of those trashy romance novels the humans loved so much. 'Bodice rippers', he'd learned they were called. For a people so anti-nudity they were certainly a concupiscent bunch. "You will attend a meal held at twilight in honour of you and your fellow officers," L'Sho informed him, and then turned on his heel and began walking back the way he came.

Tag: Joshua Niles Niles was working on memorizing the locations of the secondary relays and their backups for the saucer dorsal arrays, when a shape wound up blocking Talor's sun. Well, it wasn't as though the PADD was not backlit, so he hardly cared, and this was a reasonably public space so he had no real reasons to object to someone coming or going. However, when the shadow did not move, he looked over the edge of his PADD just as he heard a voice he would have been entirely happy never hearing again. L'Sho. Lovely. And fairly ordering him to attend a social event of some sort? Now, whether it was a universal translator issue not quite picking up on the variations of the Talorian language, the way the former Primary spoke, or just his disdain at having to make such a gesture, the Lieutenant certainly was no diplomat, and he most definitely was no linguist. And one thing he thrived on was clarity, for ambiguity was the bane of his existence, among others. Though the tone and words that were used were the sort he was entirely ready to answer with something along the lines of 'pound sand', but the Lieutenant lowered his PADD and took a deep breath, fully aware that he was dealing with a fully accredited foreign diplomat and he needed to maintain his professionalism, even with him. "Pardon me, Mister Ambassador, but may I ask you for a few clarifications?" Oh, L'Sho most certainly was not his favourite person in the universe all right; in fact, he was firmly on his 'do not like' list; however, the Lieutenant was also fully aware of who he was dealing with, and just how much L'Sho enjoyed his posting and the people he was required to interact with. "First of all, what is the local definition of twilight? I would hate to be late because of such a misunderstanding. And where is this event to be held? Furthermore, I would be grateful if you could provide some context, if you please? I'm afraid there may be a... linguistic issue at hand and I am unable to tell if your statement meant to be informational, an invitation, or an imperative?"Now, if there had been a problem with the UT and it was how it rendered the words or L'Sho had just been his typical pleasant self, Niles could live with the first two possibilities. Hell, he might even attend if it was but a poorly worded invitation. However, being ordered to attend an event by a foreign diplomat? That was the sort of thing he would have to kick up the chain, even if Commander Ellis was, like him, on leave. L'Sho

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] Shavan’s gaze followed Jovireh with a devious grin as she undressed and crossed the patio. He took a step back towards her when she stopped as if suddenly ill, but then the strange moment, whatever it was, had passed. Lowering himself more fully into the scalding water, he turned to see that Ic had moved further away. Unnecessarily, and a shame, as Shavan considered the Betazoid to be beneficial to the view. Though the rock had not completely stopped him from enjoying the glimpses that the water did little to hide. “It’s true,” he agreed, smirking at the flash of memory caused by Jovireh’s choice of words. He also knew that she didn’t care, so the discretion normally required around anyone else in Starfleet didn’t apply here. Wading around the rock, Shavan closed the distance between himself and Ic. “Come on,” Under the water, he slid an arm around his waist. The touch lingered, then partially pulled away as he stepped back, desire underlaid with a hint of guilt. (Both threatened to grow stronger if he allowed himself to keep thinking about those whispered words, and what they could mean if he let it.) Ic Arbrell Jovireh Velal

[Lt.JG Rin Zakir - Lake Arp'uk - Talor Prime]
It had been two weeks since the incident in the ellipse, and his arm was feeling much better. In fact, he had decided to go for a swim in the lake, where he could hopefully exercise said arm and get himself back into one hundred percent working order.
Despite having read up on the customs of Talor Prime, he had chosen to not to forgo swimwear. It would be just his luck for a command level officer to come across him in an unattired state. He had a feeling that it would take more than just keeping his earring in to preserve any kind of dignity, should such a situation occur!
As for the rest of his gear, surely he couldn't be unlucky enough to have his gear stolen while he took a swim, right? He hoped it would take his mind of what had happened, as well as those who had been left behind. He had already spent some time in the caves, meditating and praying for those who had been left behind in the ellipse.
He could only imagine how that other crew must have felt, to work on their escape for fifty seven years, only to be foiled at the last moment of what perhaps could have been their last chance. It could have been worse, and both ships and crews could have remained trapped, but another version of him had family on that ship. Family that were his but not. The anger had subsided for now, but it would take a while to rid himself of the guilt. Perhaps he never would.

[ Ensign Ic Arbrell— Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] She was in the water now. Oh no. And she— Oh please don’t.He should have stayed in the cave. Should have stayed in the cave and maybe actually processed everything going on by journaling or meditating or eating a lot of carbs or something instead of coming out here to wish it all away, but Ic had made choices, and it wasn’t so easy to wish it away anymore. Maybe he could have pushed through it if she had been someone else, someone neutral, unassociated, like Enola or Eliska, who didn’t understand him and couldn’t sense the panic in his blood. Anyone else, and he could just keep pretending to be his normal strange self. But he felt the dire need to synergize this, even though he did not belong in it. He had to play it cool. It would be okay. Encouragement came unexpectedly, and like torture. Shavan’s arm around his waist was like a trigger, softening him, reminding him to breathe, as it lit up every nerve in his body, the same way it did as the first time they’d touched. When he withdrew, the air moved out of his lungs again, a gut punch from a memory that wasn’t really his own, and the consequence that was. His own emotions in their native constant longing filled in the gaps. With his gaze dipped in the clear water, he followed Shavan, and tracked Jovireh, keeping as close to the former as seemed respectful to everyone here in the spring. And once he had emerged from behind the safety of the rock, Ic would be expected to speak. His throat felt small, but he couldn’t just keep quiet anymore, or wish anything away. That would not be cool. “With all due respect, and I mean this in the nicest way, because I really do like you, Jovireh, but— I’m gonna have to, um, pass on that one. Not because I don’t enjoy being bitten, or biting, for what it’s worth— ” (Apart from his own notice in the frantic attempt to be cool, his gaze flicked to Shavan’s shoulder in front of him, and then back to the bottom of the spring on the other side.) “You’re just not my type.”This wasn’t going to be considered sexual harassment, was it? Oh f— “Is it too early for drinks, would you say?” Shavan Th'zhaar Jovireh Velal
