[ LT Joshua Niles - Lake Arp'uk, East Mountains, Talor Prime ]{Quoted Post(s)} [ Myker Vulbrix - Lake Arp'uk, Talor Prime] Myker had spotted the ambassador on his approach and much to the Betazoid’s relief the Talorian seemed to have little interest in him rather making a beeline for the Lieutenant. Not that the Betazoid had any specific prejudice against the ambassador, he just hated everyone currently no matter the race. That said he was still Starfleet and so if he’d been forced into an interaction he’d remain polite. Myker observed the back and forth between the two and it was obvious they weren’t friends. Moving from his spot, duty luring him into the middle of the exchange between the two. He was in communications after all and he tended to be good at it despite having no real social skills. This wasn't 'social' judging from the body language of both parties it seemed to be more 'official'. The ambassador's disdain for the lieutenant was obvious, and Niles who no doubt he was trying his best to be polite, clearly didn't have very lofty views of the Talorian either. Myker didn't even need his telepathy to work that one out, he just couldn't work out the source of the animosity between the two and he questioned whether he ought to have done some research into the Talorians and their relationship with Starfleet, that would've been a better use of time that brooding like a sullen teenager. At least here he could be useful, he could effectively hold a conversation and not create a diplomatic incident. Although it seemed whatever conversation had occurred was coming to an abrupt end, Myker still found his way over, stopping just as Niles contacted the commander. "Whatever you did to piss him off, he doesn't like you." Myker stated the obvious with a glance to the Lieutenant and then the ambassador.. Myker had yet to determine if the Talorian’s issue was with Starfleet, humans or just the lieutenant.

[ Myker Vulbrix - Lake Arp'uk - Talor Prime] Myker wasn’t expecting any kind of explanation, but he got at least part of one which only added to his curiosity and questions he could possibly ask, he refrained though nodding ”I guess if I’d murdered someone and I thought you’d know I’d be pretty agitated too.” His usual flat tone not giving away his own amusement at that comment and the whole situation. The fact that Niles had said it was a long story only made it that much more necessary that he found out what the story was especially since he'd potentially find himself interacting with the ambassador before the night is through. The call from their commander interrupted any further discussion on that topic as Ellis relayed some information over the comms. He wasn’t sure what was the bigger curiosity, the sea creature or the Bajoran in a speedo. Myker moved to look over at the lake, as Niles was still getting up. There was indeed some sort of creature with a firm hold of Zakir, the creature had yet to eat the man but it was still a possibility or maybe it simply had a thing for Bajoran’s in speedo’s. ”We should probably help free the lieutenant.” Myker noted, even as he spoke he let his mind reach out to the creature, it wasn’t language, not the spoken kind anyway. Merely a suggestion to let go of the funny looking fish it had a hold of. That would be a quick way to work out whether it was sentient or they could wait on the Enterprise while the squid-like creature decided what to do with the Bajoran. That done he made a move to head down to the lake, should the creature decide Rin was a snack in more ways than one then they’d probably need all the help they can get. Joshua Niles

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] For a charged moment Shavan met Ic’s gaze, searching and finding some measure of reassurance, though part of him still wasn’t sure in exactly which direction. Then, the moment had passed, and he watched him leave with the Talorian. Alone with her now, he turned back to Jov, who had clearly picked up on something of his relationship with Ic, such as it were. “You didn’t. And I certainly don’t mind you’re here,” he replied easily, with a smile. After all, Shavan had also only just arrived there, on his own, so it wasn’t like she had interrupted any kind of private moment. And she was always a welcome sight. Though it was difficult to find any further explanation. He ran a hand through his hair, before likewise moving away from the patio and deeper into the springs. “I just wish I knew what he was thinking sometimes.” Ic’s enigmatic strangeness was part of his appeal, but right now he couldn’t help wondering about… certain things. [SCPO Jovireh Velal - Talor Prime - Lake Arp'uk Hotsprings]Jov smiled softly, thankful for the reassurance even though she knew Ic didn't agree. She allowed herself to drift a closer to him, and briefly considered telling him what she had picked up from the other Betazoid. However, much like intentionally listening to someone's thoughts without permission, telling a third party what was overheard was a good way to break a person's trust. So instead she just shrugged, her smile shifting to a slightly more playful expression. "Sometimes... You just have to ask what you want to know." Though she definitely understood how he felt. While she was a telepath, it was usually those whose minds she couldn't touch that she found herself wishing that she could the most often.

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] Shavan murmured in not-quite-convinced agreement when Jovireh simply said he should ask what he wanted to know. That was obvious, and he might even try doing so if Ic hadn’t been so weird (-er) since the ellipse. He’d mostly only said that in the hope her empathy might lend some insight into that complication… but when she volunteered no more on the subject, he let it drop. After all, that definitely wasn’t why she was here. Relaxing further into the hot water, he shifted closer to her. “So… I hear congratulations are in order,” he said with a grin, remembering her very recent promotion. “And I’m not sure if we’ve celebrated properly yet.”Jovireh Velal

[ Lt.JG Rin Zakir - Lake Arp'uk - Talor Prime] There really wasn't much more she could say, he supposed, as he was dangled upside down by whatever the hell this monstrosity was. Octopus? Squid? The bigger problem was that it was probably going to eat him, and even if he did somehow survive this encounter, it still didn't take away the fact that he was being displayed in just about all his glory (thank the Prophets he had decided to done the speedos rather than go with the local tradition) in front of the executive officer. Out of the two of them, he didn't know who would be more traumatised by this encounter. He watched as she slowly reached for an oar, the creature also fixing a curious eye on her as it monitored her movements. She thought it's home was lovely? Really? "Yeah, lovely, beautiful even", he agreed as he attempted to join in with the effort to appease the beast, slowly reaching for the oar that now was now being offered to him. What was she going to do exactly, try playing tug of war with the thing? There would really only be one clear winner, but at least he supposed she could say she had tried! Did she have a phaser, he wondered before realising that of course she wouldn't be armed. He wasn't either, obviously, as there was nowhere to keep anything stowed on him. Not comfortably at least. Oh Prophets, did she really just call for someone else to witness his humiliation? He hadn't worked with Niles much, but he felt his face start to burn as Ellis described the situation. He would maybe never hear the end of this, if he made out alive, but then he supposed it must have looked quite funny from everyone elses perspective! "Yeah, the best, but just so you know, I taste terrible!", he quickly agreed to being 'a very nice lieutenant, before being even quicker to inform the thing that it may regret its choice in snack. Okay, so he didn't really think he was better than anyone else of his rank, but what else was he supposed to say? "So, if you could put the nice lieutenant down, then that would be great." Oh well, it was worth a try! The one eyed cephalopod's gaze then fell from the creature on the boat back to the one that it had rescued from drowning and currently had suspended in mid air. A lieutenant, was that what the drowning thing was called? It looked at the female again, wondering if she too was a 'lieutenant', but there was something different. It reached out one of it's remaining seven tentacles toward her, but seemed to think better of making physical contact. The not lieutenant seemed friendly enough, but it seemed as though it wished to defend the other in its grasp. Why did they think it wanted to eat them? They didn't look particularly tasty... It's one eyed gaze then shifted up toward the the high cliffs, when it felt something attempt to penetrate it's mind. Curious, it decided as it decided that it would probably be of mutual benefit to obey the 'suggestion', dropping Zak into the boat without making sure it didn't squash the not lieutenant underneath him. The creature however, remained, tentacles now poking somewhat gently at the boat. Unfortunately for the lieutenant, he had still been holding onto the oar, and so missed the boat completely and wound up back in the water. With a splutter, he resurfaced, hoping that he hadn't pulled Ellis in with him. If he had? Oh, he was so losing that new pip. "Commander? If you're in the drink too, then I...", he began, before he felt the tentacle again, this time wrapping around his waist before depositing him in the boat. Well that was very kind of it...

[Felicity Ellis - Lake Arp'uk]Standby!?
STANDBY! Standby for what, death!? It would be too late, she realised. Only she and Rin could work this out. And how could they do that? Felicity nodded along in agreement as the Lieutenant began to chatter away himself. "You wouldn't like the taste of this one," she said, then started making retching noises to back up her assertion. "Blerg! Gross. Not even a marinade." The unusual part about this whole situation was that the creature was obviously intelligent. If it intended to eat them, then playing with its food was evidence of a heightened ability to perceive. If it did not plan on eating them, then perhaps its behaviour was of curiosity. Felicity always had to touch. She shouldn't, but when presented with something new, she often automatically reached out in order to help her mind categorise it. And so, when the giant squid-like thing unfurled a long tentacle and moved toward her, she responded. But before anything else could happen, she found herself flying backward, having let go of the oar as soon as Rin was dropped. She windmilled her arms for a couple of seconds - seconds that seemed like an age in slow-motion, and then fell backwards into the lake, the small auk rocking with the disturbance. She did not fall to much depth and her head was breaking the surface again almost immediately. She treaded water for a moment, and then let out a gasp as something encircled her waist. She flew out of the water, through the air and back into the boat. She spared Rin, who had already been safely deposit on board, a wide-eyed stare. Then she brushed back the soaked strands of hair and turned to face the huge creature. She bowed. "You have our gratitude."Felicity was freezing and her new boots were destroyed, but she was beginning to realise that the Lieutenant was not to feature on the menu.

And does it pose a threat to Commander Ellis and another of my shipmates?"With some luck, the Ambassador would actually answer... but even as he waited he started tapping at his PADD some more. If it turned out that it was not friendly, they would need some kind of a craft in the very near future. "Mister Vulbrix, how is your flight status? If we need to get a craft, I could probably use a copilot." [Ambassador L'Sho, former Primary of Talor, former Supreme Commander of the Talorian Armada - Overlook, East Mountains]The Ambassador had stopped a short distance away in order to take a communication. He was far enough away not to be overheard by weak human hearing, but not far enough away to be able to pretend to miss Lt. Niles' uncouth shouting. The man's demands on L'Sho's time seemed incessant. He spoke a few more words in a rare dialect to his contact, and then ended the call. At a steady pace, he approached the pair of humans at the overlook and glanced out toward the lake, expecting to see others of their kind involved in some sort of mishap. Humans were clumsy. What he saw, however, surprised even he. "That is kret'kala. They were the allies of the old gods. We do not see the kret'kala often." He paused for a moment, regarding the unexpected scene. "Talorians are the only bipedal species I believe they would have encountered, apart from the gods themselves. As we are semi-aquatic, we do not often require assistance in our waters. It appears that the kret'kala mistook your crew's ineffective splashing about not as swimming, but as distress."L'Sho was amused. He began to laugh.

[ Ensign Ic Arbrell — Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] [...] He was careful to get out of the water and collect his robe in such a way that did not reveal to Jovireh one minor detail she’d been wrong about; there was one way they weren’t much different at all. Ic turned most of his attention to the Talorian now, whose kind offer as an escort made him wonder if the difficult opinions many seemed to have about their hosts had wrongly influenced his own first impressions. But sample size and population and anecdotal-subjective evidence being what they were, Ic balanced his usual guard with the openness he used with friends. He wasn’t going to let it stop him enjoying the sense of comfort that a kind and helpful man always offered, though, especially one calling him by some cute(?) name in fragile moments like these. It was important to just move on, and stop looking back. “You’re very kind, sir. I’d be much obliged for your time, if it’s not too much trouble. Knowing me, I’d just step off a cliff into the lake and probably be eaten by a giant squid or something. I mean, I’m not dumb, just… get lost in my head sometimes. I’m Ic. Hi.”A brisk sigh tried to purge the tingle of anxiety from his veins as he started back the direction he'd arrived from. As Elouan had reminded him time and time again, it was important to move on. [Ha'la T'Rok - Hot Springs, East Mountains]"It is no trouble."Yet, T'Rok began to feel troubled, as his new charge began talking about stepping off cliffs and accidentally being consumed by giants. "Hello, Ic. I am T'Rok. I am ha'la to Ambassador L'Sho. That means bodyguard." He added helpfully, while setting a more sedate pace than usual. He thought that perhaps he could understand being lost in his head. Often, T'Rok did not venture much outside of his own thoughts. Most of his world was in there. Bodyguards to powerful Talorians like the former Primary were not expected to speak, nor was it much welcomed. "I will ensure you are not consumed without your consent."He nodded then, like a satisfying deal had been struck. He returned to silence, unsure as to what these people liked to talk about. He did not want to be impolite or offensive; he had learned it safest to say nothing in these situations.

{Quoted} [ Lt.JG Rin Zakir - Lake Arp'uk - Talor Prime] There really wasn't much more she could say, he supposed, as he was dangled upside down by whatever the hell this monstrosity was. Octopus?
Tag Felicity Ellis , Joshua Niles , Myker Vulbrix [ LT Joshua Niles - Lake Arp'uk, East Mountains, Talor Prime ]Well, looking down below, there seemed to be little more going on, beyond something that looked right at home as the centerpiece of a seafood buffet holding on to someone with curiosity... and so far his queries were coming back blank... Niles was about to turn around to do something a little more drastic, when he saw that the Ambassador was still nearby. "Excuse me, Mister Ambassador," he called out, louder this time given he needed L'Sho's attention. "What is that thing, down in the lake?

It definitely didn’t want to eat them. ”It doesn’t want to eat them, so that’s something.” Myker said out loud to no one in particular, the Betazoid was too focused on the sea creature. - Thank-you...we’re not going to hurt you.- Myker mentally shared with the creature. He just hoped one of the other crew didn’t act rashly and harm the thing after he shared that information. He watched the scene continue to unfold, the creature inadvertently had both Rin and the commander in the water again. With his attention elsewhere he fell into bad habits and simply answered the lieutenant with a nod, not really registering his question since his focus was on the now Lieutenantless squid thing. He had little interest in much else then and there, the creature capturing his attention to a degree nothing had for a while. The squid was the most interesting thing Myk had communicated with for some time since he'd been dodging everyone since the Ellipse situation. His attention only shifted back to Niles when the Ambassador approached the scene, Myker turning his attention to the Talorian as the man explained what the creature was. There was almost a sneer in the ambassador's tone as he explained. Myker looked back at the scene below. ”Would you look at that, it looks like Zakir found intelligent life.” if there was a jibe at the Ambassador in there his tone wasn’t giving it away but possibly in the pointed look thrown L’Sho’s way. The kret'kala was clearly intrigued by them, which confirmed L'Sho's words about them being the only bipedal they'd encountered. ”Or rather it found him.” He corrected. ”It’s confused by our idea that it wants to eat Zakir, supposedly the Lieutenant is not a great snack.” Myker noted, although he was sure there would be a number of crew that would disagree vehemently with that assessment. The laugh from the ambassador wasn’t unexpected, the situation was amusing, now that imminent danger for Zakir wasn’t present. Joshua Niles Felicity Ellis L’Sho and soft: Rin Zakir

[Ambassador L'Sho, former Primary of Talor, former Supreme Commander of the Talorian Armada - Overlook, East Mountains]L'Sho glanced at the unnamed one, wondering if his words were considered clever by his people. "You clearly have a generous definition of intelligent life." The citizens of the Federation seemed intent on mediocrity and banality in all things. Had this human been in possession of any intelligence at all, he would have ensured he was in no danger of predators before flinging himself with blissful ignorance into Lake Arp'uk. "Your people are lucky they encountered kret'kala and not t'kret.[fn]Ferocious aquatic beast[/fn]"The Ambassador's pleased expression suggested that he might have enjoyed such a thing much more. There was nothing like the smell of blood in the water to get the warrior spirit singing. He had no idea why these people were not using their fancy transporter systems to remove the Commander and the almost-naked Lieutenant. They would likely have swam to shore by the time this pair of sroc[fn]An unintelligent, extinct animal. Idiot.[/fn] made it through the first round of shuttle safety checks. Alas, it was not his place to criticise. Nor would his opinion be welcomed. "I look forward to receiving you all at the banquet." With a small bow he made his exit, a slight spring evident in his step.

[ Ensign Ic Arbrell — East Mountains, Talor Prime] “Ha’la T’Rok,” he repeated to himself, taking the time to turn the title as much as the name over on his tongue, and then as a thought. It was easier than L’Sho, thankfully, which even his mind stumbled over, tangling at the apostrophe. He clung to it, though, trying like a mantra to perfect the sound of Ha’la T’Rok Ha’la T’Rok, unable to fully tune out how easily Shavan-and-Jovireh closed the space he’d left. He shouldn’t have let it ache the way it did. Wasn’t that what he wanted for them? What they should have? Ic was already being consumed without his consent, but there was nothing the Talorian could do about that. "Thank you, again."A sigh trembled from his throat, and Ic finally decided to pull his robe on again, to hide his emotions under the guise of growing cold, which he was, too, so it wasn’t a complete fabrication. It was clear enough that Ha’la T’Rok would not ask about this, and that was alright. Ic normally preferred silence, but not when he sat otherwise alone with his feelings. Never when he had feelings he wanted to smother.Ha’la T’Rok was probably good at that. “Are there others I could get some help from, sir? Say, if I wanted to have something delivered to my friends back there. A good wine or something else that’s nice.” L'Sho (t’rok)

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Hot Springs, East Mountains, Talor Prime] For Jovireh’s sake, Shavan tried to ignore the lasting feeling that something was missing. Fortunately, it was easy enough to be distracted in her presence, and there was no reason not to try to make the most of the moment. The grin stayed on his face as she responded likewise. “I think I’ll be able to help with that,” he agreed, as his mind already began to anticipate the ways they might celebrate in her new quarters. Feeling her touch under the water, (and sensing that, for better or worse, Ic and the Talorian were currently out of sight) he slid an arm around her and pulled her into a playful kiss. Jovireh Velal
