[Crewman Jovireh Velal - Deck 10 - Corridor]
Thank every higher power she ever heard of that her first shift wasn't for another twenty two hours. When she arrived on the station that morning, she was shown to her quarters, and then to her superior's office for report. And then.... She told her guide to go about their business, that she didn't need a tour, she would be fine. One of these days she really needed to stop being so stupid.
What deck was the security office on again? Maybe if she could get back there, she could retrace her steps... Hell, she'd already passed Engineering three times and Sickbay twice. Oh no, don't worry, just a routine patrol. Getting the lay of the land. Don't mind me. dha'rudh...
Wait, how did she get on Deck 10? Wasn't she just on 23? Or was it 17? A low growl of frustration rumbled in her throat. Why couldn't Starfleet build all their stations with the same layout? It would make transferring posts so much easier, and just make SENSE! She could walk around Starbase 173 with her eyes closed. It seemed like here she was going to spend a month just figuring out how to get to and from her post.
With a deep sigh of reservation, she stopped by a console on the wall, typing in the commands to pull up the deck layout. Oh look, there was the Counselors office right around the corner. Perhaps this was a sign. Very funny, Front Ear, she thought bitterly, using her finger to trace a path back towards the turbo lift and then... It wouldn't pull up any other floors. Frustration swiftly turned to anger, and she struck her palm against the bulkhead beside the console, cursing sharply under her breath. "ryak'na!"
Bracing her hands against the wall, she closed her eyes and lowered her head, forcing herself to slow her breathing. That was not appropriate behavior, she knew it. And she really hoped no one had witnessed that little outburst. What a wonderful first impression that would be...

[Deck 10, Corridor, Front Ear Station] With the recent and relatively contained outbreak of Andorian flu, sickbay had found itself catering to more patients than usual. It was not a particularly deadly disease, especially not with current advances in technology, but certain species with more delicate lung structures were at risk. Not wanting to take any chances, Starfleet had begun vaccinating these at-risk species before inoculating the rest of the crew. T'Karra was unsurprised to find herself among those selected first. What was a surprise to the young Vulcan was hearing a loud noise and an outburst in what seemed to be old High Vulcan. She rounded the corner and discovered someone that appeared to be in distress. Her eyes flicked to the woman's collar. Security and tactical. Though she could spot no apparent injuries, it would be reasonable to concluded that her fellow crewman might require medical assistance based on their current location. She dropped her hands from the small of her back to her sides, ready to render aid. "Are you injured?" she asked.

A prickling of concern in the back of her mind caught her attention a moment before a voice, inquiring about an injury. Lifting her head and looking over her shoulder, she saw a young Vulcan woman facing her. A quick glance at her collar reassured her they were the same rank, so at least she wasn't about to be formally reprimanded for assaulting the station.
She dropped her hands back to her side and turned to face her new crew mate, offering a small smile as a faint green blush tinged her cheeks. "Only my pride," she finally answered the question. Of course it would be a Vulcan that witnessed her outburst. Clearing her throat in attempts to push back her embarrassment, she gestured aimlessly around them. "You wouldn't happen to be able to tell me how to get to Deck 14, would you? At least I think it's 14... This station has me so mixed up..." Great, now she was rambling. Jov cut herself off and stood there, feeling more helpless and pitiful by the second. At least Mother would be happy I asked for help... she thought bitterly.

[Deck 10, Corridor, Front Ear Station] "By requesting my assistance, it seems as though you have logically set pride aside. Commendable," she said. She took a step forward to stand beside woman and began tapping the screen. Taking a few moments to slowly access the menu, she had backed out of the current deck and selected Deck 14. The readout displayed all of the room numbers for crew quarters on Deck 14 with additional annotations for the quarters of higher ranking individuals. It was as reasonable a place as any to start their search. "What is your destination and do you have a PADD?" she asked.

Her eyebrows raised in surprise at the other woman's response. A compliment was definitely not what she had been expecting, but she knew Vulcans well enough to know she wasn't just trying to make her feel better. "Thank you," she replied simply. As the woman walked up next to her, she took a small step back to give her space, her gaze refocusing on the console as she tried to swiftly memorize the steps to pull up the screen she had initially wanted.
"No, I haven't unpacked my equipment yet, didn't think I would need it so soon..." She was never leaving her quarters without a PADD again. "I was trying to get back to my quarters, to start unpacking... But the turbolifts seem to want to take me everywhere but there..." She was rambling again. Biting the inside of her lower lip, she forced herself to take a slow breath. "I'm Jovireh Velal, by the way. Or just Jov. Thank you for helping me."

[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Max Williams - Corridor, Deck 10]Judy was very sensitive where vaccines were concerned. She could feel the muscle pain in her arm, where the hypospray had been applied, which made her quite glad she'd arranged a day off for this. As a human, the XO wasn't of a sensitive species, but she was still at high risk for the Andorian flu in light of her heart disease and her age. Wearing an emerald-green dress and grey cardigan, and accompanied by her loving husband Max (himself in a dark green turtleneck and blue jeans), the XO walked away from sickbay, when she saw a familiar face. "Hi there. I hope I'm not interrupting," Judy greeted T'Karra, a genial smile coming across her face. She nodded to the unfamiliar crewmember as well. Max, happy to let his wife do the heavy talking, stood beside her, smiling as well.

[Deck 10, Corridor, Front Ear Station] She wondered at the unwarranted thanks. Acquainting a new crew member with the layout of the station seemed the most sensible course of action. There was currently nothing pressing on her agenda for the rest of the day, so she turned to Velal to offer additional assistance. At the sound of the XO's voice, however, she continued to turn until she faced the woman and folded her hands behind her back at parade rest. "Good afternoon, Commander. Mr. Williams," she greeted them both with a faint nod. Glancing at Velal gave her pause. Judging by her earlier reaction, it was unlikely that the woman wanted her new superior officer to know she had been wandering the facility lost. Instead, she opted for a more diplomatic route. "This is Crewman Velal. I was just in the process of beginning her tour of the station," she continued. "Crewman Velal, this is Commander Eastman of the USS Mac." Prior experience had taught her that the Commander was a very sociable individual. Surely she would enjoy the opportunity to speak with the new crew member.

[Corridor, Deck 10, Front Ear station] Hearing a friendly voice behind them, Jovireh began to turn, catching her crew mate's increased formality just in time to follow suit. Finishing the turn at parade rest, she gave a polite nod of greeting to the couple standing before them. "Pleased to meet you, sir." she stated after being introduced. A soft sigh of relief escaped her at the Vulcan's statement of beginning her tour. While any other day she might ask to just show her to her quarters and she'd figure the rest out from there... She really didn't feel like continuing to wander aimlessly around the station. Someone eventually would get suspicious.

Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Max Williams - Corridor, Deck 10]Judy happened to prefer 'ma'am', not 'sir', as a form of address, but she opted not to potentially terrify a new crewmember by correcting her here and now. "Welcome to the station. I'm Max, Judy's husband," Max introduced himself. "Nice to meet you," Judy added. Standing relaxed, arm-in-arm with her hubby, Judy tried to set a more casual posture for the crewmembers to emulate, if they weren't too nervous from her presence. "We'd love to join on the tour as well, if we're not intruding too much," Judy then said, as T'Karra mentioned taking Ms. Velal on a tour. She did love showing folks around the station.

[Corridor, Deck 10, Front Ear Station] "Very well," she said dispassionately. "We can start with the enlisted crew quarters on Deck 14." Not checking to see if she was being followed, T'Karra turned on her heel and made for the turbolift. There would be more value to the tour if Crewman Velal had her PADD and the opportunity to record points of interest to revisit. Inside the lift, just above the controls, was a digital diagram of the station with numbered locations. She motioned to the display and said, "Touring the station in its entirety would take approximately 3.6 standard days. Which locations would you prefer to see?" It was unlikely that the woman had any desire to see the locking clamp controls of the station in person. Better to go with more relevant choices.

[Front Ear, Deck 10, Corridor] The Commander... Wanted to join them on the tour? Obviously she was just trying to be friendly and helpful... Jov just really wasn't accustomed to senior officers giving tours to anyone but dignitaries and delegates. "I'd be honored," she replied quickly, not wanting it to seem like she was reluctant. Which was good, because her new guide was already moving towards the turbo lift. Crew Quarters, deck 14, yes that was a good place to start. She gave the Vulcan a small, grateful nod, to show she understood and appreciated the attempts to not embarrass her in front of the Commander. When asked what all she would like to visit, she glanced at the directory. "I did get a thorough tour of the Security Decks when I reported for assignment this morning. I familiarized myself with Sickbay and Engineering when I was - ... Exploring. " She caught herself at the last moment before saying 'lost'. "So how about the Promenade? I'm also open to suggestions." She finished with a glance at the Commander and her husband. They seemed to want to help... She should let them help. T'Karra Judith Eastman

"I'd agree with the Promenade as a good stopping point. It's really the main hub of station life, for our Starfleet and civilian populations," Judy said, approving of the young woman's suggestion. "We could also visit some of the other recreational areas, like the gym, the park, or the library," Max suggested. Judy's mind wandered slightly as a question came to her. "Do you two know each other from before?" she asked.

[Turbolift to Deck 14, Front Ear Station] T'Karra observed the trio as the lift ascended, hands still tucked neatly behind her back. Whether it was in the typical Vulcan fashion or still parade rest was anyone's guess. Being from a species known for subtle gestures, the new crew member's slight nod had not gone unnoticed. Perhaps her diplomatic solution had been the correct course of action. "No, Commander," she answered. As the doors to the turbolift opened, she stepped aside so that Crewman Velal could take the lead.

[Front Ear Station - Turbolift/Deck 14] Jovireh nodded in agreement with the suggestions Max made. She would probably be spending quite a bit of her off time in recreational areas, and it would be nice to have a variety. The sudden change of subject caught her off-guard, and her eyes darted to the Vulcan at her side. Not for the first time, she was grateful to have someone so calm and collected to help her navigate the situation. The turbolift doors hissed open, and she exited, stepping to the side of the corridor to make room for the others. "She saw me looking at the directory, and kindly offered her assistance." There. That wasn't so hard, was it? Jov reminded herself this wasn't an evaluation, but if she didn't relax soon it could very well lead to one.

She pegged T'Karra for the type to help out a stranger. "We watch out for each other here," she observed, looking approvingly at T'Karra for embodying this spirit of the station. "I like to think of this crew like a family."Judy and Max walked out of the lift, and advanced at a leisurely pace along one side, so that the crewmen could easily pass them. "They say one of the rooms here is haunted, but I forget which," Max recalled.
