[ Leanna - Camp, Kerelia LZ2] [...] The Betazoid then finished what she was doing, wiped her hands on the cloth beside the pot and prepared to check on the next batch of coffee as SilverTail joined them and engaged with Saya after helping himself to stew. Lea greeted him with a smile, before Isaiah joined them not long after. " Morning Isaiah, if you're hungry we have stew, fresh flatbreads and an assortment of fresh fruit and I'm about to check on the next batch of coffee".
[ Ens. Ari Kiax - Camp - LZ-2, Kerelia] [...] Approaching the common ground he smiled, a little timidly, and nodded. “Good Morning.” he said to the group before nodding to Isaiah. “Sir.” It was likely unnecessary but he didn’t know the Human and wasn’t about to piss off the man who would likely be signing off on any choice for future scientific assignments. Ari opened a small flask, the larger one was in his backpack, and poured himself a cup of raktajino and sipped with a smile. These days it wasn’t a proper start until he’d had his cup. [Charlie Fox - "Charlie's View", Mountains near LZ-2, 200 feet above Camp][...] "It's okay, S'Riia," Charlie said, tone even. She reached out and patted the ground beside her. "Come take a proper look, it's definitely worth the hike." At least this one seemed to understand her desire for autonomy. She hadn't asked her on a date, either, or expressed interest in her underwear. Small mercies. She was happy to enjoy the stunning sight before them in companionable silence, though when the other sometime Security shadow's voice broke through her borrowed commbadge, she grinned. =/\= "Ms Fox, I think I've found you a great image oppotunity up here. As long as you don't mind heights that is." =/\= =/\= "I'm willing to risk it, Ensign. Be right over." =/\= She turned to S'Riia then, her grin turned rueful. "I guess it's time to head back." She had a suspicion that her companion had refrained from reminding her of their schedule so as not to push, and Charlie found herself appreciating the gesture. She pulled a small PADD from her pocket and with a few taps, summoned the holorecorder back to them before moving away from her new favourite spot and back toward the trail. "Olsen caught sight of something in the water earlier, took off like a bat out of hell," she began conversationally as she shoved the handheld back into her pocket. "Dying to see what it was." [Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Base Camp, LZ-2, Kerelia] Leanna Mazal had been one of the civilians to join them on this mission. She had apparently volunteered to help keep their bellies full, which was no small task. In fact, she wasted no time in offering him some of the items that had been prepared by herself and the Sivaoans. Isaiah looked around, attempting to entertain exactly what he cared to have. He supposed he should have something to keep him settled for most of the day. "I think I'll try some of the stew," he said. It likely had most of the nutrients that he'd need for the day considering it's composition. He even opted to top off his coffee. It was around then that he heard the 'sir' greeting from Ensign Kiax. That was taking some getting used to, which is why he didn't immediately correct Ari. Besides, Isaiah still wasn't sure how Perry preferred to run his ship. Did he prefer the more personal touch, or to keep things professional among his crew. Until he learned otherwise, Isaiah wasn't going to rock the boat. From what he'd read of Ari's record, he was a numbers man. That was certainly something Isaiah could appreciate. Though, his overall experience may have been a bit more vast. Isaiah was still getting used to how that worked with a Trill symbiote, and their previous experiences and knowledges. He didn't want to assume, but he'd certainly make the effort to learn while working with the ensign. "Morning, Ensign," Isaiah said in response to the greeting. "How have you enjoyed Kerelia so far?" Isaiah was certain that Ari's initial experience was far better than his own. Though, not wishing to taint the experience for him, Isaiah kept those details to himself. Isaiah half-listened as Ensign Volante reported in her scouting report to Chief Ozu. So far, it seemed that everything was going well... at least better than it had during his last visit to Kerelia. Suffice it to say, he had a strong preference to Landing Zone-2 over Landing Zone-1.

Lt. Isaiah Quinn - LZ-2, Kerelia] Even though he could see all of the potential for scientific research on this planet, Isaiah would fuss too much once this assignment was over. He had been up since before dawn looking at the reports that had been filed by the team of scientists. The botanists on the team, Ensign Jaliel and the civilian botanist, T'Laara, seemed to be making the most of their opportunity on the planet. Isaiah had been forced to make do with contributing towards the biological research, in particular a culture of insects that closely resembled Terran ants. Their reproduction seemed quite exceptional, but it was easily kept in check with what appeared to be an abbreviated life span. He was truly excited to see that some of the Engineering team, Petty Officer Som, in particular and one of the Sivaoans had started to work on the meteorological station. It appeared to be near completion, and while it wasn't Quinn's forte, it was at least a step in the right direction. The weather patterns had been closely monitored by satellites they had placed in orbit. He was looking forward to having another perspective of those systems planet-side to compare and contrast from. Having finished the last of the briefs he'd begun, he moved outside of the so-called 'lab' leaving a pair of biologist to make their recordings on what appeared to be Symbisim feces. He was sure it would be a riveting read when he got a look at the report. Stepping outside, he began to survey the area, seeing some people already getting underway with their assignments. He took a deep breath, just trying to take an informal inventory of his people. He could see Ensign Jaliel a ways away, but no immediate sign of T'Laara. They had all been cautioned about venturing off too far. And while this particular region didn't have all the dangers of LZ-1, Isaiah still issued warnings. There was also Ms. Fox from FNN. She was noticeably absent as well. She had proven to be more than resourceful the last time he had worked with her. He also learned that she didn't take well to over-bearing babysitters, or at least that was how she had perceived her last security escort. Hopefully, she was finding something engaging and not too exciting here on Kerelia. And then, there was Commodore Perry. He seemed rather reserved, opting to allow the so-called experts do their job. In Isaiah's opinion, he was fairly hands-off until the situation called for otherwise. Isaiah began to make his way towards what appeared to be a common area as Chief Ozu, Ms. Mazal and the Sivaoan, Left Ear, had congregated. "Morning all."The Science Chief couldn't help but allow his mind to briefly wonder after Thea. She was off, light years away, trying to chase down pirates... essentially as bait. He had every confidence in her ability as a Starfleet officer and trusted their colleagues to make certain everyone came home safely. He took another sip of his coffee as he casually attempted to see what edible miracle seemed to be in the works.

[NPC - PO1 S'Riia - 200ft above Base Camp, LZ-2, Kerelia] She had managed to keep her distance up until this point. She had settled upon being a distant shadow, having heard through the grapevine that Ms. Fox valued her independence and her privacy. Far be it for S'Riia to want to infringe upon that. Still, she had an assignment to do. Though, the call of the view had been rather overbearing. It brought S'Riia back to her childhood, and how her would take her on weekend excursions into the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. Hiking through those forests, even climbing a few of those cliffs... she'd never felt more alive or happy than on those father-daughter trips. And there had been something so familiar about it all as she followed Charlie up (at a healthy distance.) Besides, S'Riia was a bit grateful to head away from the camp. It was among the first time she had been assigned to a mission with the Sivaoans. There were some people that were willing to lump the Sivaoans and Caitians all in the same boat. And let's not even get started on the Kzinti. Still, S'Riia was only half-Caitian, and it was a fact that was swiftly swept under the rug by rather obvious appearance. It just seemed like a nice break to put just a little difference between them and herself, if only for a little while. Personally, she had never set foot on Cait. Earth had always been home. "I apologize, Ms. Fox," S'Riia said announcing herself, though she suspected the reporter had already known. "I just... wanted a peek. I promise not to be long." She had every intention of giving the woman her space one more. Yet, gazing out at the view, the crisp, fresh air blanketing them all. It was just enough to curb any hint of homesickness... and perhaps embed a reminder to give her parents a call once back aboard the station.
Tag: Charlie Fox [ Leanna - Camp, Kerelia LZ2] Leanna smiled as Left Ear spoke to her and commented about their surroundings before helping herself to one of the freshly cooked flat breads. " It sure is" she replied with an equal amount of cheer as she watched the Sivaoan stretch. The Sivaoans were definitely fascinating and Lea was enjoying getting to know more about their customs and way of living. That and being here in what could only be described as paradise with an almost back to basics approach to meals etc, had definitely been a positive and much needed change for the Bar Owner. A final stir and Lea looked up once more as Saya wished her and Left Ear a good morning and complimented her on the food that she had produced for the camp so far. " Morning Saya and thank you, although I can't take all of the credit, the addition of Tail Kinkers and what we've found here, have definitely added something".The Betazoid then finished what she was doing, wiped her hands on the cloth beside the pot and prepared to check on the next batch of coffee as SilverTail joined them and engaged with Saya after helping himself to stew. [Ens. Phoebe Volante - Camp - Up a tree] Phoebe shielded her eyes slightly from the morning light as looked around their surroundings. She had climbed a rather large tree on the edge of the camp to get a good vantage point to survey the area and see if there was anything of note. Fortunately there seemed to be very little activity, most of the wildlife were probably to afraid come near them after they set up camp. She raised her gaze back up to the rising star and smiled lightly, before tuning and looking back down the slope they had climbed previously. The view stretched out for miles, the shadows and lights dancing across the landscape and was only enhanced by the waving trees in the winds. The woman leaned back on the trunk of the tree she was on and tapped her commbadge =/\= "Ms Fox, I think I've found you a great image oppotunity up here. As long as you don't mind heights that is." =/\= Before she let her mind wander again she should probably report in proper, =/\= "Chief, preliminary scouting shows minimal wildlife activity around the camp, unsurprisingly. Most of it seems to have retreated at least 100m away from the camp in all directions. I'll scout further ahead of todays route as we travel." =/\= Charlie Fox - come claimb a tree and get pictures Ozu Saya - simple morning report [ Ens. Ari Kiax - Camp - LZ-2, Kerelia] Things had turned out quite well after all. Ari had been worried he wouldn’t be able to take part in the scientific excursion to the planet, his proper return date hadn’t been for another few days, but thanks to Dr. Baker he’d managed to get cleared for active service a little earlier than expected. Ari being a scientist himself was convinced this was the perfect way to return to service, an interesting assignment instead of something boring on the station, however there was the slightly relevant point that he was an Astrophysicist and Mathematician, not a botanist or geologist. Still he was more than capable of helping with sample collection if necessary. However he planned to do more than just a little help, he had studied a fair few geophysics classes at the Academy and was hoping to do a survey of the mountain passes. Kneeling in his tent he went through his gear to make sure he had everything; his tricorder, datapad, a mobile gravimeter and any other tools he needed to start an Isostatic gravity map of the mountainous region. As he strapped on his belt, holding his phaser, he felt something on the other side of the belt jab him in the side. Glancing down he saw the d'k tahg sheathed there. That had been D’yer’s influence, he hadn’t even noticed that he’d packed the thing until he reached the planet surface. Despite the memories of those long hours training Ari had some rather major doubts that he would be able to use the weapon in any real close range combat but at least it might be useful as a tool. Plus he knew if he left it behind he’d feel D’yer’s anxiety of not having a bladed weapon present on an away mission. He also had a few standard survival pieces of equipment just in case, he doubted he’d need them but Ebin’s paranoia was already present and being prepared for the worst was just about the only way to suppress those worries. Exiting the tent with his backpack he blinked slightly at the morning sun, he’d been up a few hours early for a bit of cardio to wake himself up, but he’d swiftly returned to his tent to get the day’s gear ready. Putting the heavy pack to one side he approached the gathered others, noticing a woman he’d seen at Delerium and nearby was a woman he knew only from personnel files, the Head of Engineering Chief Ozu as well as some others. Perhaps more significantly considering his own position he saw Lieutenant Quinn with them, the Chief Science Officer. With the sheer amount of people milling around the camp seemed very busy. Ari couldn’t help but wonder if perhaps being stuck on a station made the appeal of visiting the planet all the greater. Approaching the common ground he smiled, a little timidly, and nodded. “Good Morning.” he said to the group before nodding to Isaiah. “Sir.” It was likely unnecessary but he didn’t know the Human and wasn’t about to piss off the man who would likely be signing off on any choice for future scientific assignments. She nodded a greeting to Quinn when he joined them, saying, Good morning, Lieutenant.Offering Leanna a smile, Saya said, The tail-kinkers are, indeed, a welcome addition. Though a bit of a shock if one isn't prepared for them. The Sivaoans' tails both corkscrewed. It was a joke young Sivaoans often played on each other, to put whole tail-kinkers in another's food and wait until they bit right into one of the tiny hard spheres. Saya was about to take another bite of bread when her combadge chimed. =/\= Acknowledged, Ensign, she replied. One of the Sivaoans will join you on point today. There is too much cover in the woods, and they will be able to assist with their heightened hearing and sense of smell. =/\= One of the new crew members, a Trill, whom Saya hadn't had much opportunity to interact with yet joined them. Greetings, Ensign. I hope you're settling in well. This is certainly an unusual first mission at a new posting.

[Camp - Kerelia, LZ2] Jeliel squatted at the outskirts of the camp, an exotic piece of fruit he had forgotten the name of sat half-eaten clutched within one hand, it's juices slowing dripping down his wrist and dotting the ground below with its sticky sweetness, while the other hand tapped away at his latest entry into the PADD balancing dangerously across his knee. He had woken before dawn, as was usual for him, packed what few supplies he needed and got right to work. While the rest of the camp was still waking up and starting their day, he was busy cataloging various plant species along the edge of camp. First light saw low lying flowers bloom. Dew collected on the woody perennial shrubs, but due to the volatile wind few large trees or shrubs existed at this elevation, but what did exist had a hardy root system capable of worming its way into the various cracks and crevices along the mountain face. What currently held his interest was a bright green moss growing across the edge of the rock. One of the few green things at this height, this moss likely served as a food source for what animal life called this mountain home.
Taking another bite of the fruit before setting it down and wiping his sticky hand along the leg of his pants, he reached for the holorecorder that had been resting by his side and took a few photographs of the moss and its surroundings. At his side sat a collection kit; sample jars, a laser scalpel and an environmentally controlled case so that any samples taken could be kept alive to take back to the station for further study.
[ T’Laara - Outside Camp] T’Laara slowly started making her way back to the camp, knowing someone might notice if she stayed away too long. She went a different way than she had on her way out, and took a few more scans to add to her growing collection of research. Kerelia had abundant plant life, and there was more to discover all the time. Getting closer, she could hear numerous voices engaged in conversation as the rest of the crew began preparing for the day. As T’Laara reached the outskirts of the camp she caught sight of the other botanist, who appeared to have also gotten an early start by himself. “Good morning.” she said with typical Vulcan stiffness as she approached Jeliel. “Have you found something of interest here?” She looked curiously at the rock he had been photographing. [Camp - Kerelia, LZ2] As they were joined by the Trill officer who Leanna hadn't spoken much to since she had seen them during the opening night of Delirium. The Betazoid smiled as he then spoke to Isaiah and as the Science Chief then decided to try the stew, Lea quickly responded to both men. " Morning, Ari is it? and great choice, I'll get you a bowl" she replied as she then dished up a hearty portion and handed it over to Isaiah. When Saya then commented on the tail kinkers, it wasn't difficult to pick up on the Sivaoans tail curling and knew what the Engineering Chief meant if you weren't expecting to find one of them in your food. Remembering her first experience with the spice, Lea was always careful when dealing with them but she definitely wouldn't forget her first experience. " I agree, I learned quickly after my first experience" Lea commented, before Phoebe checked in and Saya engaged Ari in conversation. Hearing everyone and seeing them enjoy something as normal as breakfast in the outdoors, almost made Lea forget the real reason why they were here, but it was nice to do something that she didn't normally get to do. Grabbing the opportunity, Lea then addressed Ari, " If you're hungry at all Ari, there's stew, fruit and bread" she offered, knowing it was her way to make sure, everyone got what they needed, before heading out for the day. Then she helped herself to some along with a piece of bread and sat down on the log next to the cooking area.

Here, come have a look," he moved the PADD balancing upon his knee to the ground so as not to drop it and risk breaking the screen, before brushing off his thighs and shifting to a more comfortable sitting position on the ground.
His finger trailed in the air, tracing the direction of the moss growing along the rock's face and down the side of the cliff. [ Chief Ozu Saya, Left Ear to-Ennien, SilverTail to-Ennien - Into the Woods! - LZ-2 - Kerelia] 30 minutes laterAfter all of the early bird workers had returned to camp, Saya handed out the assignments and parameters for the day. One group would be skirting the edge of the woods and examining the geology of the area. Another would focus on the plant life inside the wooded area. A third group would catalog any animal life found within the trees. Each team comprised relevant scientists, some security and at least one of the Sivaoans, and the occasional superfluous engineer. Saya joined a different team each day to keep an eye on things and help out by carrying supplies or gathering samples under the direction of the scientists. She was interested in the natural architecture of the mountains and hoped they'd get a chance to explore some caves. Today she was going with the geology team. Left Ear liked to work with the botanists, collecting plants that could be used as medicine. She appreciated modern technology, even that of her own people, but sometimes an herbal remedy was just as effective and more accessible in an emergency. SilverTail planned to accompany the fauna team. He was a bit of a generalist biologist, interested in studying both plant and animal life. On Sivao, they believed that all of nature worked in harmony and that it was important to respect and renew the resources you used. He appreciated that Starfleet was making the attempt on Kerelia to follow such practices as they developed a colony here. And it was a beautiful place with a vast diversity of life. As the teams near the woods, they can see that, especially along the northern edge, many of the taller trees grow at a tilted angle due to the almost constant wind battering at them. There's significant, tangled undergrowth, but they're able to find paths that wind through the trees, obviously made by animals. When they enter the woods, all noise ceases except for the movement of the trees as the wind gusts through them. It's several minutes before the crew begins to hear animals again. In particular, there are trills and chirps from the thick foliage of the trees, though the crew detects nothing in their immediate vicinity.

[Charlie Fox - "Charlie's View", Mountains near LZ-2, 200 feet above Camp -> Camp]Charlie, who had been dutifully watching where she was putting her feet on the way back down, found herself looking up and over at S'Riia when she asked the unexpected question. She gave it some thought. She supposed to others it might look as though she ran headfirst into things without thinking them through, but she often thought that if she didn't let herself react in the moment, then she likely wouldn't react at all. There were things she feared that others viewed as completely normal parts of life. "It depends on the situation, I suppose," she answered honestly, before a cheeky smile lit up her face. "There was that time on the Jupiter Star when I puked on Lieutenant Niles' boots..."~~~

Charlie had opted for the animal hunt, believing that footage of new, alien creatures in their native habitat would be a much more effective advertisement for Kerelia tourism than some dreary, dripping caves. So she sprayed some repellent on any exposed skin and took off with the others into the woods, hoping that she'd encounter the view Ensign Volante had referred to earlier. It took a few moments for her to realise that the only sounds were those that the teams were making, along with the soft, nearby whirring of Olsen. It wasn't until the other ambient sounds of the creatures and insects of their jungle-like surroundings began to return that she clocked just how unsettling it was. Well that's not ominous at all."If you go down to the woods today..." She began to sing quietly.

[When you go down to the woods today - Kerelia, LZ2] Leanna didn't always leave camp but when she did, it was usually to accompany the botanists so she could collect plants, berries and other edible fauna that she would use along with the supplies that she had brought from the station to make the meals for camp. It was also a nice change to explore Kerelia properly and the Betazoid enjoyed learning as she walked and listened to the experts. It was also useful to have the tricorder, something that she had been given a crash course in how to use it properly to identify potential food sources and have those who knew more than her to make sure it wasn't poisonous or inedible. After her experience on the Orient Express, the Civilian was cautious and definitely didn't want a repeat of that ill fated adventure. Plus it gave her the chance to get to know those she was teaming up with properly, especially those who she might not have spoken to until this expedition and in some ways allow her to forget her troubles and just enjoy every second. However couldn't ignore the shudder going down her spine as they entered the woods and all she could hear was the sound of the wind, forcing her to think about old Earth horror movies that Seamus had explained to her until the animal noises returned and it suddenly felt normal again. Shrugging off the uneasy feeling, Lea adjusted the pack on her back and continued walking with the tricorder active. " I think I've picked up some kind of berry bush ahead, that might be okay for us to eat".

[ Chief Ozu Saya - Into the Woods! - LZ-2 - Kerelia] As the teams near the woods, they can see that, especially along the northern edge, many of the taller trees grow at a tilted angle due to the almost constant wind battering at them. [Ens. Phoebe Volante - Into the woods] Phoebe had assigned to team Fauna. No suprise there, it was less likely team plant or rock were going to be attacked by their research subjects. But not impossible. She looked at the rough route that was planned out on the PADD, nothing but trees. There were a few clearings just off the route, presumabley there was a reason their guides had elected to not go thrugh them. Only time would tell. When the noise died down fromt he wildlife as they entered the forest, it was made very clear that they were entering the animal's kingdom now. Their rules applied, not ours. She paused and strained her hearing for movement as the trees blocked most of her sight. Nothing. The animals weren't fleeing from them, just watching the intruders. The noise slowly returned as the animals went about their day, having possibly deeming the group more a nuisance than danger. Phoebe practically skipped to the front of the group as she heard Charlie's somewhat nervous tones, "Does't that song end up with everyone having Tea and cookies? That would be nice, though wine and steak would be better. Definitely have to visit the Blue Beta Bar place your friend runs to get a nice big meals. Away team rations are ok, but you can't beat a nice big meal afterwards." She smiled and nudged Charlie, hoping to distract her from the eeriness of the wilderness. Charlie Fox Team Fauna

[Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Base Camp, LZ-2, Kerelia] "Morning, Ensign," Isaiah said in response to the greeting. "How have you enjoyed Kerelia so far?" Isaiah was certain that Ari's initial experience was far better than his own. Though, not wishing to taint the experience for him, Isaiah kept those details to himself. [ Chief Ozu Saya, Left Ear to-Ennien, SilverTail to-Ennien - Camp - LZ-2 - Kerelia] One of the new crew members, a Trill, whom Saya hadn't had much opportunity to interact with yet joined them. Greetings, Ensign. I hope you're settling in well. This is certainly an unusual first mission at a new posting.[Camp - Kerelia, LZ2] As they were joined by the Trill officer who Leanna hadn't spoken much to since she had seen them during the opening night of Delirium. [ Ens. Ari Kiax - Camp - LZ-2, Kerelia] Ari nodded a little too enthusiastically at Isaiah’s greeting question. “Oh quite enjoying it. My previous assignments in Mathematics and Statistics didn’t leave much room for fieldwork.” he noted happily as he found somewhere to sit with his coffee. Hearing the Chief he turned to nod at her with a broad smile. He’d learnt a long time ago, a few times over, the smartest thing a junior officer could do was have a friendly rapport with the senior enlisted men and women. Besides he was still hoping to get a peak at those Engineering decks. “It’s definitely been a new experience.” he admitted. Since leaving Earth his previous postings had been on Starships. So far he’d spent all his time on the frontier upon the Station, until now at least, and had yet to step foot on the Mac herself. “Still a bit of fresh air is far from a bad way to start the day.” he chipped in excited for the chance to study the local flora, this sort of thing was exactly why he had become a botan- Wait. That wasn’t right. The Trill’s smile faded as he frowned slightly and lightly ran a hand along his temple and swiftly practiced an exercise taught to him back on the Homeworld. First he swiftly recounted the general facts of the last year, the joining and so on. Then back to his previous postings, the Academy, his Education on Trill, his family and so on. His sense of self swiftly reinserted itself. It had been Anari who had been the Botanist. Also a woman. Also dead for about 200 years or so by now. Sighing he shook his head slightly. Still the fresh air and open space was, at least, relaxing which would help with avoiding some of the usual confusion. Strange… he’d never liked the outdoors before. Now closer to the group he realised the woman whom he had mistaken for a Human appeared to in fact be a Betazoid if her eyes were anything to go by. Mentioning food he smiled again and nodded, shaking off his concern about his memories for now, and stood back up again. “Ah, yes Ari. Oh and good morning.” he responded with his usual top class social awkwardness. “A wonderful idea, thank you.” he added putting his cup aside. Fetching himself a small bowl of stew and some bread he ate silently. Tags: Isaiah Quinn Ozu Saya Leanna Mazal
[ Ens. Ari Kiax - Into the Woods - LZ-2, Kerelia] He had finished his food in silence. Afterwards Ari was soon made aware of his assignment, unsurprisingly Geology although he had made it known that he could assist with any flora sample collection that was required. Nodding to the Chief and providing a quick verbal affirmation that he understood before she moved on. The assignment had instructed his team to move to the edge of the woods anyway to begin the geophysical survey of the area. Grabbing his gear, most of it stored in the heavy backpack, the Trill had happily set off with the rock people. It took the memories of wiser Trill than Ari to realise the silence of the woods wasn’t quite ordinary and he felt unease settled upon him. Frustratingly he wasn’t sure why he found it so unsettling. These were alien forests after all. Surely they’d just be a bit different from those he’d visited in past lives. The sooner they got to their destination he better, a bit of work would distract him from the unease. Finding himself walking alongside Ozu he smiled at her as the tricorder in his hand beeped away. “Have you been down to Kerelia many times in the past Chief?” he asked, making small talk… and perhaps seeking reassurance that the plants weren't going to start eating them or something. He’d only been cleared for duty just before the assignment and the Starfleet records of past surveys hadn’t been immediately available to him. Oh the struggles of the Ensign. His tricorder beeped loudly to get his attention and the Trill frowned, tapping on the device for a moment, before nodding off to their left. “The ground over there seems suitable for taking some geophysical readings.” Ari announced to the group with a slight gesture in the direction he meant. [ PO2 Kaya Som | Botany Team ]Kaya had managed to evade any 'help' from Perry, but barely and not without a great deal of hedging. In the spirit of compromise before a super-senior officer, Kaya 'compromised' with Long Foot and did it the Sivaoan way, securing the additional sensors to the tree with hand twisted cordage and clever moisture-proof knots made from some local hemp-like plant. Upon return to camp, Kaya had a great deal of work to do to finalize the equipment that the botany team would need. Kaya was rather not outdoorsy but someone needed to come along to handle any technical issues and to keep all the equipment in working order in unfamiliar condition. She suited up with a heavy pack and tool belt. "There's a plant," she said immediately upon breaking the treeline. "Appears to bear some kind of leaf. Curiosities never cease!" [NPC - PO1 S'Riia - 200ft above Base Camp, LZ-2, Kerelia] With the invitation to enjoy the view presented itself, S'Riia didn't hesitate to accept. She ventured closer, takin in the sight of the vast terrain. It was beautiful, and yet somehow that seemed to simple a description to do it any true justice. The serenity of the moment was eventually interrupted as Ensign Volante called to report to Ms. Fox about another view... apparently one that was up a tree. "Thanks for sharing that, Phoebe," she said loudly hoping her voice would carry over Charlie's comm. The idea of the woman, whom's safety she was charged with, climbing a tree gave S'Riia's stomach a slight flutter. She wasn't about to tell the woman what she could, or could not do. Which meat she was left with two options: have a medkit or even a medic standing by, or to pass Charlie off to Volante. The internal debate waged on as she heard Charlie state that it was time to head back. Falling into step with Charlie, and abandoning the serene view, S'Riia continued on. She listened as she mentioned some footage that her device, Olsen, she affectionately called it, had captured. S'Riia was hardly surprised when she mentioned with great enthusiasm how she couldn't wait to find out what that was. "That doesn't surprise me," S'Riia commented with a slight smirk. "You don't scare easily, do you, Ms. Fox?" S'Riia asked, though she felt she knew the answer to that question.
Tag: Isaiah Quinn (S'Riia), open to Team Fauna. [ Left Ear to-Ennien - Into the Woods - Team Flora] Left Ear looped her long tail companionably around Leanna's waist as they walked. After her efforts and those of Sven Aune to save Left Ear's life on the holodeck, the Sivaoan had decided they were both her friends and showed affection whenever she saw them. The healer had her own scanner out as their team entered the woods. All of the technology that the Sivaoans used was as beautiful as it was functional. Their scanners fit their paw-like hands ergonomically and were a light green color with a pattern of vines and leaves. She aimed the device at the berries Leanna had identified and dipped her head in agreement. Looks good! We can gather samples for science and take some of them for eating. We don't want to strip the entire bush, she added. It could be the only food source for one of the native animals, so we want to leave plenty for them. Her tail released Leanna and looped into a corkscrew at Kaya's sarcastic comment. It had taken her a little while to understand this form of humor, and sometimes she still missed it, but Left Ear liked this spotted humanoid. She'd been stunned and excited to learn that some had spots like her. Only the Trill's were a little more orderly than her random colorful splotches. She held her many, many questions in check about how the genetic code arranged the spots in such neat stripes and how far down they went and whether they served any function beyond aesthetics and if the texture of the skin was different...

When the hairless SilverTail spoke up to inquire about the song she'd been quietly singing, she slowed her pace a little. "It's called "The Teddy Bear's Picnic", a children's song from Earth. Human children have very active imaginations, and often believe that their stuffed toys come alive when they're not around to watch." She glanced over at Phoebe and grinned, trying to silently communicate that she wanted the other woman to join in. Charlie wasn't normally so shy, but it wasn't every day that someone asked her to sing a song in the woods. The song began, like many old Earth ditties for kids, in a minor key, with a decidedly cautionary message. "If you go down to the woods today you're sure of a big surprise If you go down to the woods today you'd better go in disguise For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain Because today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic..."Her husky voice was made to speak, and to perhaps croon a smoky jazz standard or two, but it seemed to set a tone that matched the mood. She omitted the brighter verse and the switch to major, instead opting to skip straight to the end and the lesson inherent. There were so often strange things for children to learn in rhymes and riddles that seemed so hopeful on the surface. "If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone It's lovely down in the woods today but safer to stay at home For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain Because today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic."
