[T’Laara - Woods, LZ-2 Kerelia] T’Laara set off into the woods for the second time that day, this time following along with the rest of the botany team. She breathed deeply, appreciating being outside and surrounded by plant life. Walking up behind Left Ear and Leanna, she took some scans and a sample of the berry bush they were looking at. “I will be curious to try it.” she replied flatly to the question of eating the berries. Taking a few steps in a different direction, she bent down to examine an unusual fungus growing at the base of a tree. Tag Ozu Saya Leanna Mazal Kaya Som

[Into the Woods - Team Flora] The not unexpected and welcomed tail hug from Left Ear as they walked was something that Leanna had grown to love and appreciate ever since she had learnt what the gesture meant, through spending more time with the Sivaoan. At first it had startled her but once Left Ear had explained, the Betazoid had gotten used to it and in some ways it also felt like reassurance which was definitely a good thing, especially when she found herself missing the children. However as the Sivaoan confirmed that the berries that Leanna had found looked good and that they could collect samples for science and for eating. Leanna smiled and listened as Left Ear then recommended that they didn't strip the bush and why, Lea understood and would only take a small amount for the groups needs. " Agreed we don't want to take too many, I'll go collect some" she replied as Left Ear released her and reacted to Kaya and the Trill's sarcastic comment about the plant that she had noticed. Having spent a few days in the Engineer's company, Leanna had definitely liked her way of saying things without sugarcoating them and enjoyed being in her company. When T'Laara the civilian botanist that had accompanied their group, commented on the berries as she took scans and collected a sample, Lea smiled and agreed with the curiosity about to trying them. " Same here, I look forward to seeing what I can make with them" she said as she moved forward to collect some for camp, whilst T'Laara then moved to study some kind of fungus at the base of a nearby tree.

[In the Woods] The creatures of the mountains, ocean, forests and jungles of Kerelia were initially taken aback by these invaders who tramped along their trails and made far too much noise, but they were slowly growing accustomed, as these visitors did no harm and simply seemed interested in looking at them and gathering food. They understood that. Sometimes the creatures looked back, and the visitors almost never noticed, though a few seemed to sense the observation. Such was the case as the Starfleet teams made their way into the wind-blown forest. While the trees along the northern edge were pushed to an extreme angle by the wind, those further down the slope were more upright due to the protection of their neighbors. The dense foliage overhead and thick underbrush surrounding the trees made it a haven for all sorts of animals who peered at the passing people. Far off in the canopy, deeper into the forest, the teams might begin to glimpse occasional flashes of bright colors - orange, blue, yellow - though when they turn their scanners that direction, they can't seem to pick up anything definitive.

[ PO2 Kaya Som | Team Flora ]Kaya noted the affection between the Sivaoan called Left-Ear and the Betazoid stationer known as Leanna Mazal. Kaya found this development more interesting than the sudden appearance of berries in a forest. It made sense, she'd readily admit, that you make a home where you are or else there wasn't much point. It all made sense, really, but science wasn't something that got Kaya going. Give her a civilization to explore any day. A fat lot of shrubs, the scientists could have it. "How do you do it?" Kaya asked from where she stood in the middle of the path, arms crossed ready for a load of waiting around. "How do you tell if something's edible for a given species? D'you just eat it and stand by with a hypospray?" Suddenly, something caught her eye and she turned quickly to find nothing but the expanse wall of quiet plantlife. [fb]The thing![/fb] Absently she gently itched her arms and wondered how many parasitic insects she'd have to pick off later. Ozu Saya (Left-Ear), Leanna Mazal, Shavan Th'zhaar (T'Laara)

[ Chief Ozu Saya, Left Ear to-Ennien, SilverTail to-Ennien - Into the Woods! - LZ-2 - Kerelia] 30 minutes laterAfter all of the early bird workers had returned to camp, Saya handed out the assignments and parameters for the day. One group would be skirting the edge of the woods and examining the geology of the area. Another would focus on the plant life inside the wooded area. A third group would catalog any animal life found within the trees. Each team comprised relevant scientists, some security and at least one of the Sivaoans, and the occasional superfluous engineer. Saya joined a different team each day to keep an eye on things and help out by carrying supplies or gathering samples under the direction of the scientists. She was interested in the natural architecture of the mountains and hoped they'd get a chance to explore some caves. Today she was going with the geology team. Left Ear liked to work with the botanists, collecting plants that could be used as medicine. She appreciated modern technology, even that of her own people, but sometimes an herbal remedy was just as effective and more accessible in an emergency. SilverTail planned to accompany the fauna team. He was a bit of a generalist biologist, interested in studying both plant and animal life. On Sivao, they believed that all of nature worked in harmony and that it was important to respect and renew the resources you used. He appreciated that Starfleet was making the attempt on Kerelia to follow such practices as they developed a colony here. And it was a beautiful place with a vast diversity of life. As the teams near the woods, they can see that, especially along the northern edge, many of the taller trees grow at a tilted angle due to the almost constant wind battering at them. There's significant, tangled undergrowth, but they're able to find paths that wind through the trees, obviously made by animals. When they enter the woods, all noise ceases except for the movement of the trees as the wind gusts through them. It's several minutes before the crew begins to hear animals again. In particular, there are trills and chirps from the thick foliage of the trees, though the crew detects nothing in their immediate vicinity. Charlie had opted for the animal hunt, believing that footage of new, alien creatures in their native habitat would be a much more effective advertisement for Kerelia tourism than some dreary, dripping caves. So she sprayed some repellent on any exposed skin and took off with the others into the woods, hoping that she'd encounter the view Ensign Volante had referred to earlier. It took a few moments for her to realise that the only sounds were those that the teams were making, along with the soft, nearby whirring of Olsen. It wasn't until the other ambient sounds of the creatures and insects of their jungle-like surroundings began to return that she clocked just how unsettling it was. Well that's not ominous at all."If you go down to the woods today..." She began to sing quietly. [Ens. Phoebe Volante - Into the woods] [...] Phoebe practically skipped to the front of the group as she heard Charlie's somewhat nervous tones, "Does't that song end up with everyone having Tea and cookies? That would be nice, though wine and steak would be better. Definitely have to visit the Blue Beta Bar place your friend runs to get a nice big meals. Away team rations are ok, but you can't beat a nice big meal afterwards." She smiled and nudged Charlie, hoping to distract her from the eeriness of the wilderness. [Ens. Ari Kiax - Into the Woods - LZ-2, Kerelia] [...] Finding himself walking alongside Ozu he smiled at her as the tricorder in his hand beeped away. “Have you been down to Kerelia many times in the past Chief?” he asked, making small talk… and perhaps seeking reassurance that the plants weren't going to start eating them or something. He’d only been cleared for duty just before the assignment and the Starfleet records of past surveys hadn’t been immediately available to him. Oh the struggles of the Ensign. His tricorder beeped loudly to get his attention and the Trill frowned, tapping on the device for a moment, before nodding off to their left. “The ground over there seems suitable for taking some geophysical readings.” Ari announced to the group with a slight gesture in the direction he meant. [SilverTail to-Ennien - Into the Woods - Team Fauna] The hairless Sivaoan wore usefuls in slightly more subdued colors than his usual (shades of green), not wanting the brightness to frighten any of the local wildlife. He listened with interest as one of the members of the group began to sing, his head tilting and ears flicking. His ears flattened back in surprise when the security officer indicated she was familiar with the song as well. Is this a song that is common among humans? I didn't think that would happen much, since I learned that humans can be born on many different worlds and have many unique cultures.
I would like to hear more of it, if you don't mind sharing. Music is an important aspect of Sivaoan culture.
[ Ozu Saya - Almost Into the Woods - Team Geology] Saya nominally led the group of geologists and security officers, but mostly followed the nudgings of the experts. When she found herself walking beside the new Trill scientist, she offered a comforting smile. She nodded when he asked about previous visits to Kerelia. Indeed, I've been several times. Our first landing zone was...not viable. But there was a wedding held at LZ-2 not too long ago. This area seems to be quite safe. Thus far we haven't encountered any major predators, or even small, vicious ones. She followed Ari to the area he'd indicated, offering, I can assist with setting up the equipment. [NPC - Commodore Calvin Perry - En Route to the Woods - Team Geology]After much soul-searching, Calvin had decided he'd tag along today. It's not like he had paperwork to do while he was here, and it really couldn't hurt to see and be seen just a little bit. Having walked briskly to catch up, but without breaking a sweat, he joined the geologists. "I can lend a hand too, if that'll help," he said. [Charlie Fox - Into the Woods, en route to an ominous picnic?]"Just the bears," Charlie said in response to Phoebe's enthusiastic chat about picnics and steaks and wine, which Charlie had to agree was a lot more appetising than traipsing through the humid jungle, looking for gods knew what. When the hairless SilverTail spoke up to inquire about the song she'd been quietly singing, she slowed her pace a little. "It's called "The Teddy Bear's Picnic", a children's song from Earth. Human children have very active imaginations, and often believe that their stuffed toys come alive when they're not around to watch." She glanced over at Phoebe and grinned, trying to silently communicate that she wanted the other woman to join in. Charlie wasn't normally so shy, but it wasn't every day that someone asked her to sing a song in the woods. The song began, like many old Earth ditties for kids, in a minor key, with a decidedly cautionary message. "If you go down to the woods today you're sure of a big surprise If you go down to the woods today you'd better go in disguise For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain Because today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic..."[...] "If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone It's lovely down in the woods today but safer to stay at home For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain Because today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic." [In the Woods] The creatures of the mountains, ocean, forests and jungles of Kerelia were initially taken aback by these invaders who tramped along their trails and made far too much noise, but they were slowly growing accustomed, as these visitors did no harm and simply seemed interested in looking at them and gathering food. [Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Into the Woods, LZ-2, Kerelia] There was certainly a part of Isaiah that wished he hadn't joined this particular group, or even that he wasn't on this planet. He certainly kept checking his tricorder rather frequently, attempting to scan for any signs of lifeforms in the immediate vicinity. Nothing really stood out, but he couldn't help but feel that they were all being watched. Even with Charlie's singing of the childhood song, Isaiah could hardly enjoy the nostalgic tune. The only thing good that had come of it thus far, was learning that Ms. Fox had another talent aside from writing. Isaiah even turned his eyes upwards. Was there anything up there in the canopy? He turned his attention to the tricorder once more... and there didn't appear to be much of anything. Taking a deep breath, he lowered the tricorder and continued to follow Silvertail, Ensign Volante and Ms. Fox. He could only hope that any bear-like creatures that they came across were more like teddy bears than a cantankerous grizzly. Tag: Ozu Saya (Silvertail), Phoebe Volante , Charlie Fox
[NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Into the Woods, LZ-2, Kerelia] S'Riia had opted to go along with the Geology team... for a number of reasons. One of the reasons, to put just a little distance between herself and the Sivaoans. Suffice it to say, she wasn't overly eager to have a conversation with them. Unlike most humanoid species, they were more likely to note the differences in her appearance compared to them. Not to mention they were naturally more inquisitive. It just wasn't a conversation that S'Riia was ever looking forward to. Though, that was far from the primary reason. A lot of it had to do with whom was on this particular team: the commander of the station and their chief engineer. S'Riia enjoyed a challenge, as much as the next person, and she felt an away mission with company like that, was easily such a challenge. And then, there was the Trill. It was his first trip to Kerelia, and rumor had it that it was always quite an experience for people on their first trip here. It seemed that Phoebe had been eager to accompany the fauna team... as well as Ms. Fox, yet another high priority asset. S'Riia certainly didn't want to have to report to Lt. Commander Aune that any of them had sustained injury or worse while under their watch. Ensign Kiax seemed to point out an area that seemed sufficient for him to collect data. Chief Ozu and Commodore Perry offered to help set things up. S'Riia had no qualms about helping, but her first inclination was to examine their surroundings. She could feel the wind brushing through the trees and along her furry face. Her ears twitched a few times. As that movement, or just the wind? Slowly, her eyes thoroughly inspected their surroundings, her hands at her side, but always prepared to draw her phaser.

Having walked briskly to catch up, but without breaking a sweat, he joined the geologists. "I can lend a hand too, if that'll help," he said. [ Ens. Ari Kiax - Into the Woods - Geology Team - LZ-2, Kerelia]] Ari beamed happily as the Chief Engineering offered to help, one of his greatest fears in joining the new crew had been making bad impressions on his colleagues especially the senior Enlisted and Commissioned ranks. That smile was then turned to a man who spoke behind him, only to freeze as shock and horror struck the Ensign to the core. The man speaking to him was Commodore Perry, the commanding officer of the area. Ari had never met the man of course but he recognised him from the personnel listing he’d reviewed a few weeks ago. “Ah… yes… thank you sir..” he managed to sutter out as he swung the heavy backpack from his shoulder and undid the hard cases latches. Opening it he took out a small number of rectangle devices roughly 19 cm by 9 cm in size with input pads and screens on top whilst a small single spike protruded from the other end. Ari give those around him willing to help a quick instruction on where to drive the devices into the ground for proper spacing as well as how to turn them on and calibrate them before deployment. Striding a short distance off he moved to off to calibrate the machine before sinking to one knee before driving it into the ground, as he did so the man paused as he noticed something nearby. It was almost like someone else had taken the steering wheel, D’yer or perhaps Ebin, with their superior experience in field exercises he immediately focused on the unnatural marking. The first thing that had drawn Ari's attention, a black scuff mark against a rock, perhaps a mark caused by someones shoe scrapping across it's surface? His gaze slid across the surface a little further and he noticed what looked like tracks from a boot, and a larger disturbance as if something heavy had been dragged across the ground. Only a year ago Ari might have panicked and ran back to his superiors but he was a different man now, he finished driving the gravimeter into the ground before casually standing up and striding back, one hand resting against his hip just next to his phaser. Tapping his combadge twice in quick succession he didn’t speak immediately but simply did so to send a quick connection to those nearby to draw their attention. It was a trick he’d… no… not Ari, D’yer had picked up from a friend years ago. He approached the Commodore, his earlier nervousness gone, and shot a glance at the Chief to join them. He would wait to see if she, or any of the others, would approach before explaining what he saw and where he had seen it. “Over there. A boot mark and something else, equipment or a body, has been dragged across the ground.” he said softly describing the tracks he’d noticed. “Someone else has been out here and recently too.”Ari had projected far more confidence and severity than he had earlier, as if another spirit had momentarily inhabited him, but it was already fading and a look of nervousness was beginning to creep back into his expression along with some disorientation as his own sense of self reasserted itself. [ Ens. Ari Kiax - Into the Woods - LZ-2, Kerelia] He had finished his food in silence. Afterwards Ari was soon made aware of his assignment, unsurprisingly Geology although he had made it known that he could assist with any flora sample collection that was required. Nodding to the Chief and providing a quick verbal affirmation that he understood before she moved on. The assignment had instructed his team to move to the edge of the woods anyway to begin the geophysical survey of the area. Grabbing his gear, most of it stored in the heavy backpack, the Trill had happily set off with the rock people. It took the memories of wiser Trill than Ari to realise the silence of the woods wasn’t quite ordinary and he felt unease settled upon him. Frustratingly he wasn’t sure why he found it so unsettling. These were alien forests after all. Surely they’d just be a bit different from those he’d visited in past lives. The sooner they got to their destination he better, a bit of work would distract him from the unease. Finding himself walking alongside Ozu he smiled at her as the tricorder in his hand beeped away. “Have you been down to Kerelia many times in the past Chief?” he asked, making small talk… and perhaps seeking reassurance that the plants weren't going to start eating them or something. Tag Ozu Saya , Ari Kiax [Ens. Phoebe Volante - Into the woods] Phoebe had assigned to team Fauna. No suprise there, it was less likely team plant or rock were going to be attacked by their research subjects. But not impossible. She looked at the rough route that was planned out on the PADD, nothing but trees. There were a few clearings just off the route, presumabley there was a reason their guides had elected to not go thrugh them. Only time would tell. When the noise died down fromt he wildlife as they entered the forest, it was made very clear that they were entering the animal's kingdom now. Their rules applied, not ours. She paused and strained her hearing for movement as the trees blocked most of her sight. Nothing. The animals weren't fleeing from them, just watching the intruders. The noise slowly returned as the animals went about their day, having possibly deeming the group more a nuisance than danger. Phoebe practically skipped to the front of the group as she heard Charlie's somewhat nervous tones, "Does't that song end up with everyone having Tea and cookies? She omitted the brighter verse and the switch to major, instead opting to skip straight to the end and the lesson inherent. There were so often strange things for children to learn in rhymes and riddles that seemed so hopeful on the surface. "If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone It's lovely down in the woods today but safer to stay at home For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain Because today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic."

Tags: Ozu Saya Judith Eastman Soft Tags: Isaiah Quinn & whomever else is on the Geology Team [ Chief Ozu Saya - Team Geology] Thank you, Commodore, Saya said when Perry offered his assistance. She was a little confused by him. He was friendly enough, certainly, but quiet. Didn't throw around his authority as he most assuredly could have. She began helping with the equipment, having enough passing familiarity from an engineering perspective to be able to check that each piece was working properly as it was placed. She was pleased to see the caitian security officer taking her job seriously. Saya caught the new Trill ensign's concerned glance and followed him to Commodore Perry, brow furrowing. Her eyebrow rose as he described what he'd seen, but she shook her head. We should remain cautious, naturally, but it could have been one of our own people who has gone off by themselves over the last couple of days. It seemed ludicrous that anyone else could have arrived on the planet without the station being aware. Saya would, of course, defer to the commodore's orders on whether to investigate further.

[ SilverTail to-Ennien - Team Fauna] The Sivaoan's tail curled in delight as Charlie sang, he even joined in on the second verse, his slightly gravely voice matching the woman's perfectly. When they finished, SilverTail made an amused chuff and said, That is delightfully ominous. I like it very much. Sounds like one that my camp's bard sang when I was a child.SilverTail sang a few lines in the lyrical hisses and snarls of the Sivaoan language. It was also in a minor key, though the actual melody was quite different. Ours is about watching out for slashbacks, not bears, though, he stopped to say. I will have to see if I can make a passable translation into your language.Glancing around the group, he noticed Isaiah checking his tricorder over and over and stepped closer to speak to him. Is all well, Lieutenant? You seem concerned.

[ Left Ear to-Ennien - Team Flora] They smell delicious, Left Ear said to T'Laara before the Vulcan moved away. The young Sivaoan was baffled about how to interact with T'Laara. She'd met the chief engineer, whom Left Ear understood was only half Vulcan. That seemed to have a huge significance in behavior. The Sivaoan was gregarious, but that didn't seem to matter to the Vulcan. She twitched her skin, causing her fur to ripple. Kaya asked about judging what foods were safe, and Left Ear's tail coiled. She responded, For my own people, I can usually tell by smell, though I'm still careful to check with a scanner. But doctors and scientists are able to determine with a high level of accuracy what chemical compounds will cause an adverse reaction in a being. The scanners are set to test for those compounds and compare them to the data they contain on all of the various species. There is still the possibility of a mistake, which is why we also have medical people with all of the groups, but so far there don't seem to be any major oddities here. The scanners have been accurate so far. It was a long speech for the young healer, but it was easy to fall into lecture mode when it came to her favorite topic. Left Ear watched with approval as Leanna began gathering berries. She'd initially been concerned when she saw how much the Starfleet people relied on technology that they wouldn't be able to give up so much to form a beneficial symbiotic relationship with the life on Kerelia; but since they'd arrived on the planet, Left Ear had been impressed with their resiliency and adaptability.

[ Left Ear to-Ennien - Team Flora] They smell delicious, Left Ear said to T'Laara before the Vulcan moved away. The young Sivaoan was baffled about how to interact with T'Laara. The scanners begin to pick up some sort of life form, but can't pinpoint a species, variety or number. [ T’Laara - Woods with Botany Team] As her tricorder processed a scan of the fungus T’Laara glanced back towards Left Ear and Leanna. “Indeed, they do have a distinctive scent. There could be many possibilities for their application in cooking. And food is only one practical use we might find for the species we discover.” She almost smiled. It was a fascinating experience to be on a largely unexplored planet. Even if not all of their group felt the same way. She turned to look at Kaya and raised one eyebrow, somewhat amused by the engineer’s words. “That is correct. Part of my research here involves scanning the chemical compositions of the life forms we find. However, that is a method you are also welcome to try, particularly as you seem to be bored. It might be entertaining to watch.” she suggested with a hint of sarcasm. As they went further into the forest, the plant life became denser as the trees sheltered each other from the wind. T’Laara’s sensitive ears picked up an increasing amount of animal sounds as well. Out of the corner of her eye she thought she saw a flash of color and movement, but when she looked, there was nothing but branches rustling in the wind. Nothing to be afraid of. [ PO2 Kaya Som | Botany Team ]Kaya gave T'Laara a smirk. "Har har. I'd rather not have the Kerelian Runs rest of the week, thanks." They plodded on, and Kaya began to wonder at ancient things, like how memories passed not just through minds and symbionts, but also through cells. Before cities rose and fell and rockets shot into space, bacteria found homes in mammalian guts, and vines climbed the taller trees for better sun, and someone eventually sorted out agriculture through trial, error, and some urgent euphemisms. Then Leanna Mazal precieved something in a way only Betazoids could. Kaya turned to look, trying to see if there was any hint of a joke in it. "What does that mean? Who's anxious?" She didn't literally mean the forest did she? Kaya had heard of that before; massive, planet-scale organisms with a nervous system like a network of plantlife but was actually a single being. [ T’Laara - Into the Woods with Botany Team] T’Laara looked at Kaya. “Suit yourself.” As they kept walking, the forest closing in around them, the conversation took a more serious, and more intriguing turn. “I have so far found no evidence that the forest itself is sentient.” But then she didn’t know everything about this place; it could be possible. Nor did she know exactly what was going on in the Betazoid’s mind. Her own telepathic abilities were more limited, and worked differently. Maybe Leanna was able to sense something of the animals that inhabited the forest, which were likely startled by their presence. Again, T’Laara saw a flash of movement accompanied by a streak of bright color. “I believe I saw something close by.” She raised her tricorder to do a broad scan of the area for life forms. “I am picking up readings that indicate complex life forms which were not there earlier, but the scanner is unable to isolate and identify them in the midst of everything else around us.” Which was odd. Their instruments were usually more precise. Tag Leanna Mazal Kaya Som Ozu Saya

[ Chief Ozu Saya - Team Geology] Thank you, Commodore, Saya said when Perry offered his assistance. [NPC - Commodore Calvin Perry - Team Geology, the Woods]Lending a hand on the equipment assembly was simple enough for Calvin. As a former helmsman, he was familiar with the broad principles of Starfleet mechanics, but not skilled in handling the most scientific technical equipment, so he was useful. Then, along came the bread and butter of command, judgement calls. "Something doesn't look right to me. Let's investigate it," he decided. "Might have to do with whatever is in the trees."
Tag Ari Kiax and Ozu Saya [ PO2 Kaya Som | Botany Team ]Kaya gave T'Laara a smirk. Ozu Saya (Left Ear), Leanna Mazal , Shavan Th'zhaar (T'Laara) [ T’Laara - Into the Woods with Botany Team] T’Laara looked at Kaya. Tag Leanna Mazal Kaya Som Ozu Saya [ Chief Ozu SayaTeam Geology] Saya nodded and replied, Aye, Commodore. She gestured for S'Riia to join them. Petty Officer, please take readings and examine the surrounding area. Ensign Kiax noticed signs that someone else has been in the area. She pointed out the black marks on the rock and what looked like drag marks. Ensign, let's get this survey done, but all of us should remain vigilant.~~~~~ Eyes watched from not far away as the Starfleet people seemed to become aware that they weren't necessarily alone. The eyes narrowed. Whatever idiot had been foolish enough to leave signs was going to lose an ear. Or maybe the offending foot.

[ SilverTail to-Ennien - Team Fauna] SilverTail's nostrils flared as he caught a whiff of...something. He couldn't identify anything specific, even by opening his mouth slightly and drawing the scent deeper. It was puzzling. There was definitely some sort of animal, but nothing he could identify. As he surveyed the trees again, the Sivaoan noticed something odd. Stop, please, he called to the group. Does that look wrong to anyone else? He pointed to a large loop of what appeared to be vine hanging from a large branch. While there were vines and ivy trailing from some of the trees, this appeared to be tied.

The creatures that lived in this forest were shy and curious, but cautious. These people hadn't caused any harm. And one... it was like she was in their heads. A louder rustle above and suddenly peeking around the trunk of a large tree nearby was a bright orange creature, large wings settling against its back as it clung to the tree and peered down at the group. Its head tilted and its impressive frill raised and lowered to different levels as it trilled and chirped. There were responses from other trees, though no other creatures made themselves visible. This one, the leader, was bolder, protective. {Click me!}

[Ens. He paused a moment, wondering if he were making more of the moment than necessary. "More than likely," Isaiah responded. "I'm just being... cautious. One of my earlier visits to Kerelia had quite a lasting impression upon me. I guess I'm hoping to avoid a repeat of --"Isaiah fell silent as the tricorder chimed once more, this time louder than before. He turned his eyes from the Sivaoan to his device, and then looked around with his own eyes. "I'm detecting... something, but my readings aren't very detailed at all. I sense life... but it's shrouded the vast variety surrounding us. It's likely due to our limited time on this planet. Our instruments haven't been calibrated to differentiate as they typically do elsewhere." It actually said quite a bit about this planet, and made quite the argument for the planet's natural preservation. With his own eyes, he noticed color shrouded by their surroundings, but he was rather confident that there was some sort of movement beyond the foliage. The question of course... was what exactly? He looked towards Charlie and Phoebe. "Sorry for being a buzzkill. I'd much rather prefer the bears I think."

[NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Team Geology, LZ-2, Kerelia] S'Riia's had been attentive to the ensign's summons. Though, the effect it had upon her was to make certain that the sourrounding area was secure. The last thing she wanted to do was crowd with the others, leaving them vulnerable from several vantage points. That didn't mean she wasn't listening. In fact her words caused the Caitian to be even more alert. Se could hear the chirps or calls of the life. Yet, nothing sounded like an immediate threat... at least not yet. Eventually, Chief Ozu summoned her over, and asked that she take scans of the 'evidence' of additional life that Ensign Kiax had come across earlier. Nodding, S'Riia answered. "Aye, chief," she stated. S'Riia kneeled next to the markings, her eyes carefully examining them. "I'm not certain anything or anyone was dragged," S'Riia concluded. "The identures aren't consistent... their... almost rhythmic if I had to guess."It was all that S'Riia cared to offer until she had a more in depth analysis of the facts. Reaching for her tricorder, she began to scan the marking for micro-celluar decay of known fabrics and like compounds. That would at least let them know if they were dealing with a person... or if something alive had moved about the area recently. S'Riia certainly didn't like the idea of Commodore Perry being present. Yet, she doubted he'd care to march back to camp for his safety. It just meant she'd have to do a better job of seeing to the entire team's safetly.

"If you go down to the woods today you're sure of a big surprise If you go down to the woods today you'd better go in disguise For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain Because today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic..."Her husky voice was made to speak, and to perhaps croon a smoky jazz standard or two, but it seemed to set a tone that matched the mood. She omitted the brighter verse and the switch to major, instead opting to skip straight to the end and the lesson inherent. There were so often strange things for children to learn in rhymes and riddles that seemed so hopeful on the surface. "If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone It's lovely down in the woods today but safer to stay at home For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain Because today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic." "Yes, most of Earth's childrens songs are omninous warnings of danger or smei-dramatic re-telling of times past. Another popular one almost everyone knows is 'A ring around the roses' which is about The Black Plague which killed around twenty five percent of Earth population. It's probably still one of the highest death tolls we have for somethi..." She railed off as their guide told them to stop. The security officer immediately placed her hand on her phaser and scanned around before seeing the seemingly knotted vine. "Is that, a vine trap?" She flippped her tricorder open and let it scan while she kept looking around. The tricorder reported there was life nearby. Great, uncalibrated tricorders are the worst. She closed it with a flick of her wrist and replaced it on her belt and fully drawing the phaser, "Nothing useful. Normal senses only folks. Eyes peeled, ears open and stay close. Do not get seperated until we know what's what." Charlie Fox Isaiah Quinn Ozu Saya (silvertail) Team Fauna
