[Team Green - Woods, Kerelia, LZ2] " I'm not sure, it's hard to pinpoint" Leanna replied honestly to Kaya's question and wished she could give her a better answer. When it came to her abilities sometimes it was easy to decipher emotions and who they were coming from, but with being surrounded by the forest, it proved a little harder than normal. Perhaps it wasn't the forest as T'Laara then pointed out, before the Vulcan scientist then saw something and promptly scanned it. The news that there was something there, certainly had Leanna intrigued, although the fact that the scans couldn't isolate or identify whatever they were, didn't necessarily frighten the Betazoid. Then as Left Ear said the same thing after the Sivaoan attempted to determine what or who was in the vicinity with them. Leanna waited, allowing her mind to open up more, in the hope that it would help. That was until she heard a loud rustle and looked at the others, before her attention moved to the creature, that was peeking out from behind a large tree. Taking in every detail of the bright orange creature, with its large wings and impressive frill. Now she understood the curiosity as it began to chirrup and trill, realising that this must be the leader as they heard similar noises. " They're curious and this one, well I sense protectiveness from it, so possibly it's the leader ... they remind me of the dragons in Ariana's storybooks" Lea commented, realising why they seemed a little familiar as instinct had her attempt to communicate further. " It's okay we're not here to hurt you" she added gently, whilst broadcasting reassurance in her mind.

[ Chief Ozu Saya - Team Geology] Thank you, Commodore, Saya said when Perry offered his assistance. She was a little confused by him. He was friendly enough, certainly, but quiet. Didn't throw around his authority as he most assuredly could have. She began helping with the equipment, having enough passing familiarity from an engineering perspective to be able to check that each piece was working properly as it was placed. She was pleased to see the caitian security officer taking her job seriously. Saya caught the new Trill ensign's concerned glance and followed him to Commodore Perry, brow furrowing. Her eyebrow rose as he described what he'd seen, but she shook her head. We should remain cautious, naturally, but it could have been one of our own people who has gone off by themselves over the last couple of days. It seemed ludicrous that anyone else could have arrived on the planet without the station being aware. Saya would, of course, defer to the commodore's orders on whether to investigate further. [NPC - Commodore Calvin Perry - Team Geology, the Woods]Lending a hand on the equipment assembly was simple enough for Calvin. As a former helmsman, he was familiar with the broad principles of Starfleet mechanics, but not skilled in handling the most scientific technical equipment, so he was useful. Then, along came the bread and butter of command, judgement calls. "Something doesn't look right to me. Let's investigate it," he decided. "Might have to do with whatever is in the trees." [ Chief Ozu SayaTeam Geology] Saya nodded and replied, Aye, Commodore. She gestured for S'Riia to join them. Petty Officer, please take readings and examine the surrounding area. Ensign Kiax noticed signs that someone else has been in the area. She pointed out the black marks on the rock and what looked like drag marks. Ensign, let's get this survey done, but all of us should remain vigilant.~~~~~ Eyes watched from not far away as the Starfleet people seemed to become aware that they weren't necessarily alone. The eyes narrowed. Whatever idiot had been foolish enough to leave signs was going to lose an ear. Or maybe the offending foot.[NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Team Geology, LZ-2, Kerelia] S'Riia's had been attentive to the ensign's summons. Though, the effect it had upon her was to make certain that the sourrounding area was secure. The last thing she wanted to do was crowd with the others, leaving them vulnerable from several vantage points. That didn't mean she wasn't listening. In fact her words caused the Caitian to be even more alert. Se could hear the chirps or calls of the life. Yet, nothing sounded like an immediate threat... at least not yet. Eventually, Chief Ozu summoned her over, and asked that she take scans of the 'evidence' of additional life that Ensign Kiax had come across earlier. Nodding, S'Riia answered. "Aye, chief," she stated. S'Riia kneeled next to the markings, her eyes carefully examining them. "I'm not certain anything or anyone was dragged," S'Riia concluded. "The identures aren't consistent... their... almost rhythmic if I had to guess."It was all that S'Riia cared to offer until she had a more in depth analysis of the facts. Reaching for her tricorder, she began to scan the marking for micro-celluar decay of known fabrics and like compounds. That would at least let them know if they were dealing with a person... or if something alive had moved about the area recently. S'Riia certainly didn't like the idea of Commodore Perry being present. Yet, she doubted he'd care to march back to camp for his safety. It just meant she'd have to do a better job of seeing to the entire team's safetly. [ Ens. Ari Kiax - The Woods - Team Geology] When the Petty Officer spoke, Ari frowned for a moment, instinctively he disagreed with her assessment but the simple fact was that he was using expertise from an entirely different life which was floating around amongst a confusing jumble of several people’s lives. Logically it was more than possible he was getting mixed up. “It’s possible.” he admitted. “My survival training was from a li-a long time ago.”Refocusing on his orders Ari nodded to both the Commodore and Chief “It won’t take long to set up, the software will run automatically after that, most geophysical survey data is done in the lab after the fact.” he assured the others. It was a simple case of driving the measuring devices into the ground at the proper locations, and it took only the amount of time to move to those places and calibrate the machine before driving it’s point into the ground. Once the setup was complete Ari moved to his backpack and pulled out the datapad, a heavier and more durable variant than Starfleet standard issue, designed for scientific field work. The screen pinged to show the measurement devices current locations and little green dots notified Ari that they were all ready to begin. “Please avoid walking near the machines.” he requested of the others as he began the automatic data collection. Now it would simply be a case of allowing the devices to run for however long they could for the best data sample to work with. Tags: Isaiah Quinn Ozu Saya Judith Eastman (Perry)

[ SilverTail to-Ennien - Team Fauna] The Sivaoan's tail curled in delight as Charlie sang, he even joined in on the second verse, his slightly gravely voice matching the woman's perfectly. When they finished, SilverTail made an amused chuff and said, That is delightfully ominous. I like it very much. Sounds like one that my camp's bard sang when I was a child.SilverTail sang a few lines in the lyrical hisses and snarls of the Sivaoan language. It was also in a minor key, though the actual melody was quite different. Ours is about watching out for slashbacks, not bears, though, he stopped to say. I will have to see if I can make a passable translation into your language.Glancing around the group, he noticed Isaiah checking his tricorder over and over and stepped closer to speak to him. Is all well, Lieutenant? You seem concerned.
[In the Woods] The flashes of bright colors become more visible, while the trills and chirps become louder. The scanners begin to pick up some sort of life form, but can't pinpoint a species, variety or number. [ SilverTail to-Ennien - Team Fauna] SilverTail's nostrils flared as he caught a whiff of...something. He couldn't identify anything specific, even by opening his mouth slightly and drawing the scent deeper. It was puzzling. There was definitely some sort of animal, but nothing he could identify. As he surveyed the trees again, the Sivaoan noticed something odd. Stop, please, he called to the group. Does that look wrong to anyone else? He pointed to a large loop of what appeared to be vine hanging from a large branch. While there were vines and ivy trailing from some of the trees, this appeared to be tied. [Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Team Fauna, LZ-2, Kerelia] Isaiah sighed heavily even as he heard his name on Silvertail's lips. He paused a moment, wondering if he were making more of the moment than necessary. "More than likely," Isaiah responded. "I'm just being... cautious. One of my earlier visits to Kerelia had quite a lasting impression upon me. I guess I'm hoping to avoid a repeat of --"Isaiah fell silent as the tricorder chimed once more, this time louder than before. He turned his eyes from the Sivaoan to his device, and then looked around with his own eyes. "I'm detecting... something, but my readings aren't very detailed at all. I sense life... but it's shrouded the vast variety surrounding us. It's likely due to our limited time on this planet. Our instruments haven't been calibrated to differentiate as they typically do elsewhere." It actually said quite a bit about this planet, and made quite the argument for the planet's natural preservation. With his own eyes, he noticed color shrouded by their surroundings, but he was rather confident that there was some sort of movement beyond the foliage. The question of course... was what exactly? He looked towards Charlie and Phoebe. "Sorry for being a buzzkill. I'd much rather prefer the bears I think."[Ens. Phoebe Volante - into the woods - Team Fauna] Phoebe smiled lightly as she sang along with Charlie, only tripping up slightly as she skipped to the end of the song. "Yes, most of Earth's childrens songs are omninous warnings of danger or smei-dramatic re-telling of times past. Another popular one almost everyone knows is 'A ring around the roses' which is about The Black Plague which killed around twenty five percent of Earth population. It's probably still one of the highest death tolls we have for somethi..." She railed off as their guide told them to stop. The security officer immediately placed her hand on her phaser and scanned around before seeing the seemingly knotted vine. "Is that, a vine trap?" She flippped her tricorder open and let it scan while she kept looking around. The tricorder reported there was life nearby. Great, uncalibrated tricorders are the worst. She closed it with a flick of her wrist and replaced it on her belt and fully drawing the phaser, "Nothing useful. Normal senses only folks. Eyes peeled, ears open and stay close. Do not get seperated until we know what's what." [Charlie Fox - Into the Woods]"At least you can see bears coming," Charlie said, finding herself agreeing with Quinn's sentiments. She hadn't even been amongst the first groups down to Kerelia, and so she'd had no firsthand experience of the tritter creatures herself. She had, however, read extensive independent reports about the planet before she'd left the station, and much of that included information on the small, vicious and very quick natives. The atmosphere, along with ominous Earth songs might have drawn a shudder from her had she not been slightly enjoying herself. Just slightly, mind, she wasn't a total psycho. She stopped when she was told to, her eyes narrowing at the mass of vines, curled around the surrounding trees, but when it became clear that nobody was quite able to figure out what was ahead of them, she started moving again. As she approached she raised her arm and clenched her hand in a fist, a physical signal to the former reconnaissance drone. "We can send Olsen in," she said, the suggestion simple and her expression reflecting that she did not expect any argument. Charlie would probably mourn any damage to her holorecorder quicker than she would most of the people at the camp, but sacrificing was the Starfleet way. Aside from that, she was curious to find out what was going on, and whether or not it would mean her footage was to become an advertisement for paradise, or a warning never to set foot on the surface of a murderous ecosystem.

It made sense to carry on the survey and not chance down a bootprint that could lead them to a complete nothingburger, or into trouble. Still, what the Caitian PO, S'Riia (?) had said got him thinking. "What do you think happened?" he asked. "There's that, but there's no trail. It's weird. If it wasn't dragging, what could it be?"He wasn't ready to admit that he was downright worried by this. If there was an intruder, or some kind of altercation (as opposed to just a member of their expedition out for a morning walk), Calvin wanted to know.

[Ens. Ari Kiax - Into the Woods - Geology Team - LZ-2, Kerelia]] Ari beamed happily as the Chief Engineering offered to help, one of his greatest fears in joining the new crew had been making bad impressions on his colleagues especially the senior Enlisted and Commissioned ranks. That smile was then turned to a man who spoke behind him, only to freeze as shock and horror struck the Ensign to the core. The man speaking to him was Commodore Perry, the commanding officer of the area. Ari had never met the man of course but he recognised him from the personnel listing he’d reviewed a few weeks ago. “Ah… yes… thank you sir..” he managed to sutter out as he swung the heavy backpack from his shoulder and undid the hard cases latches. Opening it he took out a small number of rectangle devices roughly 19 cm by 9 cm in size with input pads and screens on top whilst a small single spike protruded from the other end. Ari give those around him willing to help a quick instruction on where to drive the devices into the ground for proper spacing as well as how to turn them on and calibrate them before deployment. Striding a short distance off he moved to off to calibrate the machine before sinking to one knee before driving it into the ground, as he did so the man paused as he noticed something nearby. It was almost like someone else had taken the steering wheel, D’yer or perhaps Ebin, with their superior experience in field exercises he immediately focused on the unnatural marking. The first thing that had drawn Ari's attention, a black scuff mark against a rock, perhaps a mark caused by someones shoe scrapping across it's surface? His gaze slid across the surface a little further and he noticed what looked like tracks from a boot, and a larger disturbance as if something heavy had been dragged across the ground. Only a year ago Ari might have panicked and ran back to his superiors but he was a different man now, he finished driving the gravimeter into the ground before casually standing up and striding back, one hand resting against his hip just next to his phaser. Tapping his combadge twice in quick succession he didn’t speak immediately but simply did so to send a quick connection to those nearby to draw their attention. It was a trick he’d… no… not Ari, D’yer had picked up from a friend years ago. He approached the Commodore, his earlier nervousness gone, and shot a glance at the Chief to join them. He would wait to see if she, or any of the others, would approach before explaining what he saw and where he had seen it. “Over there. A boot mark and something else, equipment or a body, has been dragged across the ground.” he said softly describing the tracks he’d noticed. “Someone else has been out here and recently too.”Ari had projected far more confidence and severity than he had earlier, as if another spirit had momentarily inhabited him, but it was already fading and a look of nervousness was beginning to creep back into his expression along with some disorientation as his own sense of self reasserted itself. Tags: Isaiah Quinn Ozu Saya Judith Eastman (Perry) [ SilverTail to-Ennien - Team Fauna] The Sivaoan's tail curled in delight as Charlie sang, he even joined in on the second verse, his slightly gravely voice matching the woman's perfectly.

Does it...want us to follow it?[ T’Laara - Woods with Botany Team] “Oh.” T’Laara looked up at the strange creature in surprise and fascination. For a few moments she only watched it, while Leanna explained that it wasn’t a threat. Slowly, so as not to startle the creature, she raised the tricorder again to scan it and record an image. “Hello.” she said quietly as she stared up at it, and the creature appeared to survey them in return. “It’s beautiful.” T’Laara replied when Leanna compared it to something out of a storybook. She glanced at the others in the group. What now? She didn’t know much about how to approach animals, so continued to simply observe as it started calling and flying from branch to branch. Left Ear's idea of following it was interesting. “Perhaps we should. Our purpose here is to explore the woods, after all. I am curious to see where it will go.” With that, T’Laara stepped forward and walked after the creature. Tag Leanna Mazal Ozu Saya Kaya Som

[ PO2 Kaya Som | Team Botany ]Kaya was as in awe as the rest of them of the dragon-like being. Slowly, she crouched down to pick up her heavy pack and slide a tricorder from her pocket. She didn't want to activate it, though - she'd read the reports of how EM had effectively made Landing Zone 1 unusable. She'd follow the sci-nerds' lead on pointing light-up scanners at first-contacts. But then, wait - they were going to follow it? Immediately, Kaya turned to look at Leanna who'd sensed anxiety. Curiosity, as well, but anxiety? "Are we sure they're not going to think we're ... chasing them?" Ozu Saya , Shavan Th'zhaar , Leanna Mazal

[Team Green - Kerelia, LZ2) As the others reacted to the creature, Leanna continued to be fascinated with the trills and chirps that it was making. Committing the sound and image to memory, in order to tell Ariana all about it when her daughter returned to the station, knowing she would love to hear all about the dragons that Mama had met on Kerelia. However as it began to move and trill at them, Leanna watched it, wondering what it wanted them to do. That's until Left Ear suggested that it might want them to follow it. Considering she sensed no evil from the creature and wanting to find out what was causing them to be anxious, following what the Betazoid had picked up earlier. Lea was happy to follow them if everyone else thought it was a good idea. It was T'Laara who spoke first, agreeing that they should considering they were here to explore, as well as admitting her own curiosity for doing so. When Kaya then spoke and asked if they were sure, if the creatures weren't going to think that they were chasing them. Lea understood why she had asked that but at the same time, had to trust their instincts. " From what I can tell, they won't and it does seem keen for us to follow it, so I say that we should and find out more".

Isaiah Quinn - Into the Woods, LZ-2, Kerelia] The sign of the the vines and assumedly the lack of information from the tricorder had placed Ensign Volante on alert. Her tricorder had been replaced with her phaser. Isaiah had to admit, the sight of the vine so intricately tied was certainly a cause for intrigue, if not alarm. As Silvertail asked if it could have been left by one of their people, Isaiah began to shake his head. Charlie went on to verbally express that it was doubtful. "And then there are the question of why and who?" the science officer stated. His eyes returned to his tricorder as he tried to make more out of what he was getting from the device. Though, with each passing moment, he grew more and more concerned. The suggestion then came from Ms. Fox to use Olsen to further investigate. Isaiah took a deep breath. His gut wanted to contact Commodore Perry to report in. Of course, it couldn't hurt to have more information on hand when he did actually call in. He continued to tinker with the tricorder as Charlie sent Olsen in for a closer look, practically acting as a scout. It was the sound of the actual collision that tore Isaiah's eyes from the tricorder and in the direction of the now downed Olsen... that Charlie was approaching at break-neck speed. Dammit!"Ms. Fox! Stop!" Isaiah called after her, but he had his suspicions that it was a futile effort. [NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Team Geology, LZ-2, Kerelia] Somehow, S'Riia couldn't help but feel that she had offended Ensign Kiax. He gave her theory some credibility by saying that it was possible, but he was clearly more convinced by his own. And why shouldn't he be. S'Riia hadn't really posed much of a theory. It just disturbed her to think that someone or something had been dragged and then just... all traces were gone. There was something missing. S'Riia hadn't realized her words had collected as much attention as it had as Commodore Perry pushed her for more of an explanation of what she thought happened. She was still intrigued about his own suggestion about something in the trees, but there was little more she could than she had without further information. Chief Ozu even asked her if there was anything that suggested that the marks were made by someone other than their crew. A long sigh slipped through S'Riia's lips. Had she really just been grasping at straws. She was just about to admit that there wasn't when her tricorder chriped. The scans had finally completed themselves. Looking down at the results, the Caitian woman's eyes widened suddenly. "There were trace amount of a metallic alloy quite commonly manufactured by several species," she said. The composition was hardly naturally occurring. She held out her tricorder for Chief Ozu to personally inspect the readings. "There are also lingering hints of some sort of engine fuel." S'Riia looked at the others. "Whatever was moved, may have been paced in some sort of vehicle that took off from here." And as far as S'Riia knew, this hardly described any of their vehicles.

[ Left Ear to-Ennien - Team Flora] Left Ear's bright blue eyes went wide with wonder upon seeing the flying creature. Oh, so lovely, she whispered in awe. Even as she spoke, the creature tilted its head and trilled again, flapping its frill several times. Then it leapt from the tree, flapped its impressive wings a few times to cross the trail they were following, and landed on a large branch, long tail dangling down. It looked over its shoulder at the group and trilled again, turning to face into the forest. It made another leap, wings flapping once, before landing to cling to the trunk of another tree further into the woods. It kept looking at them and vocalizing before making another short hop away. Left Ear's head tilted as she watched the bright dragon-like creature's antics. Tag Leanna Mazal Ozu Saya Kaya Som [ PO2 Kaya Som | Team Botany ]Kaya was as in awe as the rest of them of the dragon-like being. "Are we sure they're not going to think we're ... chasing them?" Ozu Saya , Shavan Th'zhaar , Leanna Mazal [Team Green - Kerelia, LZ2) As the others reacted to the creature, Leanna continued to be fascinated with the trills and chirps that it was making.

Without whiskers, he couldn't show assent the way other Sivaoans did, so he'd adopted the human tendency of nodding. The motion felt odd. Caution is wise, he said to Isaiah, then continued, That is a good idea, Charlie. The recording device that seemed to have a mind of its own had taken the Sivaoan aback at first, but he could certainly see the use of using the device for reconnaissance in the dense forest. Let's get a closer look at the loop, whatever it is, and perhaps a look around the immediate area. He gave each person a sharp look. None of your people would set such a trap, would they? It seems relatively harmless, but it could do severe damage to a creature caught in it. [Charlie Fox - Into the Woods]Charlie nodded at SilverTail's agreement, then dropped her fisted hand and pointed toward the area where the large loop of vine was hanging. The small sphere reacted to the gesture immediately, and Charlie pulled a small PADD out of a pocket. "We can follow progress on-screen if need be." She couldn't imagine that Olsen would get too far away, or that they'd lose him amongst the gnarled brown and green of the jungle, but it was possible that he'd have to reconnoiter a little further than was safe for them to step. That was, after all, the purpose the device had originally served. "Doubtful," she answered the hairless Sivaoan when he questioned if any of them if they were responsible for the trap. "Not exactly Fleet standard operating procedure. More your speed, I would have thought, Silv-"A projectile was spat from the undergrowth and knocked Olsen straight out of the air. "What the...!" Charlie dropped her PADD and broke off at a sprint toward the downed holorecorder, which had been hammered an impressive distance away by the force of the hurled rock.
Tags: Ozu Saya (SilverTail), Phoebe Volante and Isaiah Quinn [Ens. Do not get seperated until we know what's what."[Ens. [Charlie Fox - Into the Woods]"At least you can see bears coming," Charlie said, finding herself agreeing with Quinn's sentiments. [NPC - Commodore Calvin Perry - Team Geology, the Woods]Calvin, ever deferential to the crew, didn't interfere. [Chief Ozu Saya - Team Geology] Saya was impressed with the efficiency of the scientist and nodded her understanding as she stepped carefully across the ground to consult further with S'Riia. She couldn't see anything remarkable on the ground. Okay, maybe the one black streak across the surface of a rock, but nothing else. Petty Officer, is there anything to indicate that these 'marks' were caused by someone other than our own crew?{For SRiia}The scans would indicate a common metal alloy used in many types of manufacturing by many different species, but also, hints of some kind of engine fuel, as if a vessel of some kind had taken off from a spot near the scrape marks.

[ Left Ear to-Ennien - Team Flora] Just remain calm and move slowly, Left Ear advised Kaya. Animals respond instinctively to how we act, and these seem to also have an advantage of telepathy, at some level. We're fortunate Leanna was with us. Or perhaps this one sought her out. As she spoke, both her voice and movements were slow and calm. Her tail helped move vines and branches out of the way as they forged their own path into the underbrush. The dragon continued until it was about a hundred yards from the path, constantly checking that he was being followed by the group. Finally, he reached his destination, perching on the trunk of a tree, head down and trilling in distress. From a stout branch forty feet up the tree hung what looked like a vine, but at the end of that vine dangled a brightly-colored green and yellow lump, struggling weakly. Bits of vine could be seen tangling the dragon's wings and legs, preventing it from righting itself. Even as the group watches, the creature's struggles slow.

As an environmentalist, Calvin did not like the thought of needless motor vehicles - however clean - running through this area. Their people - in addition to not having other operations in this area - had careful environmental practices to follow in these virgin lands, which other groups (if this was what it was) did not have. Moreover, their position could be compromised, putting them at real risk. =A= "Perry to all away teams. Had back to the camp as soon as you can. [ T’Laara - Woods with Botany Team] While T’Laara understood Kaya’s desire for caution, she found it difficult to resist a mystery. Carefully and trying not to startle the alien creature, she picked her way through the woods to keep up with it. She couldn’t tell exactly how intelligent it was, but if Left Ear and Leanna were right then she wanted to see what it would show them. They could potentially learn a lot more if it led them toward its home or more of its kind. As it turned out, it did lead them to another of its kind, but one that was in a dire situation. “Fascinating. It must be trying to ask for our help.” Implications of that aside, there was now the question of how to free the second creature. There was little T’Laara could do without going back to the camp for equipment. She looked at Left Ear, thinking that out of everyone in their group the Sivaoan was the most likely to be able to help. “Are you able to climb up there?”
The creature was clearly injured, and running out of time. And so, apparently, were they, as the order to return to camp came over the comms. She raised her tricorder to scan for life signs again, but it wasn’t registering anything new. Tag Ozu Saya Kaya Som Leanna Mazal

Followed by a totally unexpected weight on her back, the force of which sent her hurtling toward the ground. She hadn't had any warning and so she crashed to the brush beneath them, unable to protect herself or even attempt to cushion her fall. Sharp twigs and jagged stones scraped her face as the breath whooshed out of her on impact. The roar she let out of her was comprised of shock, pain and anger. "GET. "Screw you," she said to the Sivaoan rudely, through clenched jaw as she reached out to grab one of Olsen's components. Her constant companion. The only thing in her life that actually did what she wanted it to do. The thing she'd saved from the scrapheap on the horrific Torros III, the one of a kind inanimate object that she'd given a human name to, that she often accidentally, and without meaning to, referred to as 'he'. She would not leave without it.

[Team Green - Woods, LZ2 Kerelia] When Left Ear advised caution and mentioned that the creatures may have some kind of telepathy. Leanna knew that the Sivaoan wasn't wrong and whether it was because of her presence or if the dragon like creature had sought her out, there was only one way to know for sure. So as they agreed to investigate and follow the dragon, Leanna kept her focus on the creature and the link that had been established between them. Although was careful not to trip or stumble through the undergrowth. Once they had reached their destination, Leanna looked to the creature as it began to trill it's distress again and the Betazoid began to understand why, especially when she picked up another creature in trouble. Turning away, the Civilian saw the brightly coloured green and yellow creature struggling to free itself from some kind of trap. " It is" Lea answered instantly to T'Laara's observation before she asked Left Ear if she could climb the tree. Saving the creature was definitely something that they needed to do, before the call from Perry ordering them back to camp and why. Lea knew that they couldn't leave yet, regardless of the order and yet they now had a race against time to do both, before trouble found them. " We don't have long before we need to get back to camp and we can't leave it like that".
